First time back in 5 weeks
Last time I played this course was about 5-6 weeks ago. The course has dried out considerably which is understandable, given our lack of rain. Having said that, the greens may have been in the best shape that I've seen in 6 months. Cut a little shorter and run a little faster. Each time I've played, it has been by myself, giving me a 2+ hour round. Yesterday was especially tough with the wind howling in your face on a long par-4 #17 and a long par-5 #18. The course wants to be part of the Arkansas Golf Trail. To do that, the clubhouse needs dramatic improvement.
Thunder Bayou review
Greens are slow. Roll around a 7, maybe an 8. The greens are well maintained. Thick rough around the greens that make chipping a bit difficult.
Fairways need work, but spoke with staff and they are much better than a few years ago (3-5yrs). Overall the course is fun for a casual round or trying to shoot low and is what you would expect for a public course.
Great shape!
This the 5th time playing this course. After rain for nearly a week, the course was basically dry, so it drains extremely well. The only place I saw any standing water was on a couple of the cart paths. If this golf course wants to be considered as a part of Arkansas' "Golf Trail', they really need to something about their amenities. It was beastly hot, around 95, and very high humidity, yet there was no water for the golfers anywhere. And they have one of the poorest clubhouses that I've ever been in, with very little to offer. This course has the potential to be a top-notch facility, worthy of being part of the "trail" but it could stand some improvements.
Fun course
We recently moved to Jonesboro, AR, and I hadn't played on over a month. thunder Bayou was my first intro to AR golf and I came away very satisfied. A couple of things regarding the course. First, the greens were much slower than what I was accustomed to in Arizona., Second, the course is very wide-open, with almost no trees close to in-play. I don't remember any sand bunkers- all grass. Finally, despite the course's reputation, the clubhouse needs badly to be updated. If you're looking for amenities, this is not it!. Having said all that, I will go back and play it again.
Well maintained greens although they were slow. Very friendly staff and pace of play was great. The opportunity to improve is the quality of the fairways. Very inconsistent hole to hole regarding fairway quality. I enjoyed the layout of the course and having 4 sets of tees was nice. With a little improvement to the fairways this place could be a hidden gem.
Well maintained
Fairways trimed down. Your able to find your ball in the rough.
Good course
For this time of year the course was in good condition. The greens were super slow but in fair condition. The fair ways were thin but to be expected
Pleasantly pleased
Enjoyed the course very much and it was in good condition, especially considering all the rain we have had lately.
Such a fun course!
Perfect course for higher handicaps. Challenging without being over technical.
It just keeps getting better!
This is the second time I have played here. Greens just keep looking better and better. fairways are good, and you can tell they are trying to make them great. Tee boxes are great! I can’t believe they look and play so well considering all the crazy weather they have been having.
Excellent Course
The greens, fairways, and tee boxes were all in excellent condition! Great course at a great price!
highly Underrated
This was a great course, especially for the money. The staff were awesome. The carts were great. Cart paths were perfect. Fairways, greens, and tee boxes (for the most part) were in great condition. We had a great experience, and we’ll be back!
