Designed by Jack Nicklaus, Summit Rock Golf Course is one of four world-class golf courses at Horseshoe Bay Resort. "During the design of Summit Rock, my team and I were challenged to think creatively about how to incorporate the natural terrain, add plenty of spice to the course, while still making the holes playable for a variety of skill levels. The end result is a distinctive course that gives the player more options than most," Nicklaus said. Located in the scenic Texas Hill Country, less than an hour from Austin, Horseshoe Bay Resort has been named one of America's Best Golf Resorts by Golf Magazine.

A private club at a resort
Summit Rock is a rare private club situated at a resort. You have to be a member to play it. That's too bad for resort guests because this would be a Top 100-type experience they would love to experience. It rides a plateau for a while, overlooking the entire community. Jack Nicklaus did a nice job with a good mix of holes. There's at least six signature holes and moments. Once the new clubhouse is built by next year, this will be one of Austin's best destination private clubs.
One of Jack's newest and most fun courses
If you are fortunate enough to play it, Summit Rock is a standout Hill Country private club and one of Jack Nicklaus' more fun designs. The course has a wonderful setting and the amenities are even better (the driving range is complete with rocking chairs, music, fire pits, you name it -- you could spend all day here working on your game). The course has lots of risk-reward options like reachable par 5s, drivable par 4s, etc. In typical Jack fashion, you will be tested, particularly off some tee boxes, and the greens are very difficult, while bunkers can be menacing. The course is open only to members, but hopefully one day they will open it up to resort guests too (like with the club's three other courses).
