Beautiful modern layout!
(Above price is just an estimate as it was part of a 3 round 2 night stay & play golf package)
This was out last stop on a weekend on the Penn-Ohio Golf Trail. Was having a great front 9 until I out a 5 wood into the bunker on the short number 5 and then promptly launched my bunker shot over the green into the junk, but that's not on the golf course.
We played ealy and the greens turned fast and true once the dew dissipated.
It is a beautiful course and would like to come back to play it again.
Horrific Pace of Play
I have been coming to Firestone for a few years now and it is a great course. However, this year things seemed to have changed as far as staff and scheduling tee times. I had an 11:20 tee time on a Saturday afternoon. I walked off the 18th green at 4:50PM. I waited on every single tee box for at least 5-10 min. It was impossible to get in any sort of rhythm. The ranger decided to make an appearance on 16, admitting this was terrible and he was going to talk to management. We went into the clubhouse afterwards, thinking the least a course of this caliber could do was a voucher for 18 or something. They said there was nothing they could do about it. Worst part of it was my group was only a twosome. I have emailed management a couple of times and they refuse to respond. This isnt the first time I had a 5+ hour round here this year. I do not think I will be back this year unless the wife makes me mad and I need out of the house for an entire day...
First time played
reserved tee time for 1112am. Got out early. Course is in great shape. First time I've played here. Greens were as if I was playing in Myrtle Beach, that good. Staff was very helpful and directions easy as carts have GPS in them, first time I've had that in my 55 years of playing. So easy to plan shots. I will play here again.
Getting Better
The folks that run The Links at Firestone Farms continue to slightly improve the track almost every time I tee it up here and today was no different.
Started our round right at the end of a moderate rain shower that slowed the greens down through the front 9 but the course handled the water without issue.
Tee boxes remain in great shape and as the greens dried and firmed they became an honest test.
The only real issue with the course remains the use of contractor grade sand in the traps. Lots of rocks to contend with. I realize at this price point that's a bit picky but its the next thing the course needs to tackle to get to the next level.
American Links Golf
This has always been one of my favorite golf courses within an hour's drive of Pittsburgh. A mix of parkland and links golf that makes you get every club in the bag dirty.
The course might be in the best shape I've seen it in years. Greens are true and fast. Tee boxes are in decent shape and the flatter portions of the 3rd fairway have finally started to dry out.
Excellent
I've only played this course as a scramble. I was glad to be able to play individually. Course is in great shape. It was cart path only when we played, but we had just had a tremendous amount of rain. That's not the courses fault. Would definitely come back again and again.
Snail-like pace of play ruins a great golf course
Picked our balls up on the 14th and said "Enuf" - out there for over 4 hours thru 13 holes. Course Management is more than happy to accommodate too many golfers but not willing to manage the pace of play.
This is a very nice golf course with memorable holes - well designed, challenging, but very fair. Be prepared, however, for a long day if you tee off before 2 pm.
Don't bother unless you have > 6 hours to play.
Prices are great, but that's it. We quit after 3 hours, 15 minutes to play the front 9. This was, without a doubt, the slowest golf course I've ever experienced.
No marshals out to speed things up, and it showed.
We quit after 9
Longest round of golf I ever played
Had 11:36 tee time had to start at back nine behind a group of 12. Didn't tee off till 11:55 took an hour to play first two holes. Called the ranger he gave us attitude and said it is always like this and basically nothing he could do and drove off. At 5:15 I had to leave yes 5:15 and didn’t play the last hole!!!! It’s a Tuesday and shouldn’t take that long to play 18 holes miss managed corse! Corse was beautiful and well taken care of but should have been done before 4pm on a Tuesday!!!!! Don’t think I’ll ever go back everybody said this corse is always that bad!! Sad. Put more time in between tee times and have a ranger that knows what he is doing
Great Course
First time playing, very nice course in great condition. Plenty of challenges for all skill level of players. Well worth the drive from Cleveland, keep up the great job.
Worth the drive
A little wet on some of the lower holes due to recent rains.
Greens in good condition as were fairways and tee boxes.
Staff friendly.
Will play again when it is dryer.
A great links
This course has quite a few memorable holes. The green roll true and the fairways are excellent. A hotdog at the turn is a must.
Great shape
New carts with GPS a lot of money has been put into this already nice golf course. Our group loves playing here, it is the hardest of our 6 course rotation but we enjoy the challenge.
Solid Keeps Getting Better
This remains one of the best golf courses for the money within an hour's drive of Pittsburgh. A mix of links and parkland golf the course forces you to play the elements in a changeable environment. Beware the wind on the back 9.
Course was a bit on the dry side this time around but the greens were reasonable and were not spiked up. Tee boxes were in great shape.
Love This Couse
Living in the Pittsburgh Airport area this course is as close as many listed in the Pittsburgh area and has become one of my favorites.
Greens were rolling a bit slow thanks to some Friday rain but other than that the course was in excellent shape. The rain meant that on the links holes you actually had to fly the ball to the greens rather than hit a Scottish wedge and run it up.
Thanks to the low land costs in Eastern Ohio this is always an affordable round and one worth the couple of extra miles on the course.
Worth the Drive
Decided to make the hour drive from Pittsburgh to play the Links at Firestone Farms. This beautiful course was well worth it and more. From our first encounter with the staff in the parking lot, the service was friendly and welcoming. It was like they were actually glad we came to play their course! Imagine that!
The front nine of this links course is built around a housing development while the back nine doesn't have a single property on it which allows you to enjoy the beautiful setting and landscape. Really enjoyed the back nine. The course was in immaculate condition, the greens held well although they were on the slow side.
As this was our first time playing the course, I appreciated the yardage book that was included in your scorecard. This made a big difference in how we approached the course.
Make the drive - its worth it.
One Of The Finest Public Course Layouts
Played this course several times per year and always can't wait to return. The layout is a fun, challenging, and exciting array of holes mostly designed in a links fashion that often includes a wind variable. I would give the "course layout" 6 stars if I could. Despite a generally high difficulty level of the track, most holes seem quite fair. Have to hit the ball consistently straight here or it will be a long day. The par-3's give nothing away either.
Only downside on this latest trip is that the generally wet conditions this year have taken a toll on most of the sand traps and a few fairways. Still, for the price, I don't know of a better public golf venue in Eastern Ohio / Western PA.
Beware the Wind
All good links layouts know which way the wind blows and it does here in Columbiana, Ohio. Firestone Farms on a calm day is a course that can be taken. On a windy day like today (with an approaching front winds over 30mph) your score is going to be taken.
This is a fair course that is going to make you hit just about every club in your bag at least once. The greens are slightly more receptive after some on and off rains this week and they roll on track.
At $25 and less than an hour from both Youngstown and Pittsburgh International Airport this is a steal of a course.
A Must Visit Course
I have been golfing here for years and I always enjoy this course. Definitely a unique course with a great mix of difficulty. Staff is always top notch with friendliness and helpfulness. Also, speaking from experience, great place to receive golf lessons. Course is certainly well maintained. My one and only complaint about this course : the other golfers. This seems to be the only course I visit where no one fixes their ball marks on the greens. A little frustrating. Aside from that, definitely add this course to your "must visit" list.
