Las Colinas Country Club

About
Las Colinas Country Club opened in 1963 with a Joe Finger design that took advantage of the rolling terrain between Dallas and Fort Worth. Finger’s design features huge greens as well as fairways that are fairly wide, but never offer a level lie. The course rolls through beautiful oak, pecan, and mesquite trees, some of which must be the most magnificent in Texas. Overall, the course is old, well-tended, and spectacular.
On the front, the 437-yard hole 5 causes problems as it doglegs right over a creek that continues along the right side to the green.
On the back side, the later stretch of holes is the most challenging, starting with the 401-yard No. 15, which requires a longish approach over water into a peninsula green. Next comes the long No.16, which also doglegs right inside fairway bunkers that squeeze the landing area. And finally No. 18: a 550-yard par 5 that tees off over a creek and features a lake in the landing area. The approach on this signature hole plays into what is basically an island green.
Getting there : The course is located 15 minutes from the Dallas/Fort Worth Airport. Take 114 east for 10 miles and the course is on the south side of the highway.

Must play near Dallas if you can get on!
We played as “ members for a day” and had a fantastic experience ! Every club employee we came into contact with treated us as though we were life long members. The balls on the driving range were a bit “ seasoned “ but just fine for a good warm up session. The course was in immaculate condition. The fairways were fairly soft for August in Texas and the lies were perfect. The rough was somewhat penal but not unplayable. The greens were really quick - probably 11-12 on a stimpmeter and when combined with the slopes provided plenty of challenge. Bunkers were well maintained and consistent. Our group forecaddie did a great job of helping us with yardage and green reading. Our pace of play for four of us with two high handicap wives was just under four hours. If I lived in the area and had the means, I’d join and play here ASAP!
Challenging but fair
In comparison to courses in the area, this course is challenging and fair. Good tee shots provide you opportunities to score. Most landing areas are generous as well. The greens had a good amount of movement but rolled true. Not sure what more you could ask for at this price point.
Poor Shape
For a private club not in good shape. Fairways full of divots and greens full of ball marks. Pace of play was slow and virtual no rough. Not a private club experience or even a nice muni one either.
Country Club Golf but could have been better
My wife and I played on a Thursday afternoon. We are members of a reciprocating club in Tulsa Oklahoma. Our club pro arranged for us to play here and I will grant you that we were playing in a virtual hurricane. 30-40 mph wind. The course was a little burnt looking and a very nice older couple asked us to play with them. They quit after 9 holes due to wind. The reason for my lower rating is due to everyone we encountered acting like we were outsiders. We tried to get a temporary members number to use for drinks and food etc.... but the pro shop guy had been there for 4 days and explained that he didn't know what to do. So we had to pay cash to every person. That created a weird scenario every time. The course is a very interesting layout. Greens were very hard to figure out. Grainy and hilly in some areas. I bet it would have been better if we had not had the wind and the cold shoulder by many that were unaware if how to treat visiting members of another country club.
I played here yesterday for the first time and every one of your objections to this course have been rectified ! My review will appear here in the next couple of days.
