Oak Hollow Golf Course

About
After 50 years, the old 9-hole McKinney Municipal Golf Course shut down to make room for the new 18-hole championship layout now known as Oak Hollow. This new layout, designed by Maury Miller, opened in 1998, featuring rolling terrain that routes around six manmade lakes.
Miller’s design is particularly friendly from the middle tees, playing a fair 6,277 yards with several short par 3s and many average-length par 5s. The number one handicap is No. 15, a 423-yard par 4.
Getting there : Take Hwy. 75 north to Hwy. 380, then head east to Hwy. 5 (McDonald St.). The road veers and leads you 1 mile to the course.

Pretty fun
The new greens role nicely but are still extremely firm and it creates some crazy bounces. Teeboxes are nice, hopefully they can keep them in good condition. Fairways need a good growing season still. The grass is still very thin, making for some less than optimal lies. Carts don't have GPS, make sure you have a rangefinder or your own GPS.
Course Needs Help
This course could use some improvement/redesign. USGA should not rate this layout until shorter tee locations are added for senior/junior golfers. Hole 8 is totally unplayable by all but very best golfers due to unrealistic sloping into a deep ravine in two fairway areas. Many of the fairways today were littered with small tree branches and debris that a good maintenance crew would have cleaned up.
Great for the money.
Was busy and pace of play was good. Course conditions were fair at best. Price was great. Amenities were poor.
Could be better
The course layout is good. The greens look great but will not hold a shot and are very fast. On course staff is good but starter could be friendlier and provide better service. The course is a little rough in places but it is winter and it gets heavy play so ver understandable.
Course closed
I can’t believe you let people do reservations if the course is closed
Best Greens I’ve played on in a while
Oak Hollow is a very fun course to play. It is a really nice lay out, and probably the nicest public courses I’ve playin in North Texas.
I am very new to golf, and played best ball with a buddy of mine.
We absolutely had a blast and will be back.
