Gran Coyote Golf Riviera Maya

About
Situated just minutes from Playa del Carmen, the Gran Coyote Golf Riviera Maya (formerly known as Grand Coral Riviera Maya) snakes through dense Mayan jungle with scenic glimpses of the Caribbean Sea throughout. The designer, Nick Price, laid heavy emphasis on having the most minimal environmental impact as possible while still providing a fair and challenging round. He even employed a team of biologists and environmental consultants to determine how to minimize water consumption and protect the native wildlife. Price carefully preserved and incorporated the native vegetation into the golf course so that it blends seamlessly into the beautiful surroundings. The dense jungle comes into play along the fairways, requiring some accuracy to maneuver or else you'll surely lose a ball. Water hazards come into play on several holes and there are also strategically placed bunkers lurking near the greens.

Worth playing
This was the second of two courses I played this week. The first being El Tinto. I liked this course much better.
The course was in very good condition. It is a fair course with large landing areas. Water does come into play and there are a lot of bunkers. Greens had been punched, I'm guessing 3 weeks ago. They are healing nicely. Bunkers were all raked nicely and they had consistent and plenty of sand in them. They had 2 carts going around with drinks including the ability to make margiritas. I played 36 holes in 5 hr 30 min With a $65 replay cost. Fairways were plush with very little browning.
Advise, there are large run-off areas around all greens, when chipping back up do not expect the ball to release and run out off these collars, it won't. It's better to throw the ball up closer to the hole. The greens were holding very well. GPS on carts and all sprinkler heads are marked.
It's a good fair course. They give you a hand towel for your face..tip... stick it in the cooler with the ice...ice water on that towel when it is 90 deg and humid as F... you'll enjoy it. Hit um long and straight!
Under new ownership
This course was purchased by a wealthy Mexican who hopes to compete with the reputation of mayakopa. The previous ownership catered to the golfers, now it caters to the whim of the owner. Prices have gone up, loud, distracting music is continuously played on the driving range and the staff is not as friendly as before. There is no 19th hole for cocktails and refreshments after a round. A makeshift grill is set up under trees near the carts with a very limited food selection. The course is beautiful but overpriced and club owners pay much more and get less, than before.
Forgiving design and meticulously maintained
After playing several courses in the Playa Del Carmen area we settled on this one as our favorite
Another great day!
We know that there is a lot of pressure on these folks to make money and compete for golf dollars, but the price is competitive, the staff is friendly, and their rate are fair for Playa.
Beautiful facility!
We booked our tee time through Teeoff, and for the discounted price, this was a bargain. The staff was very accommodating and even let us go out early and we pretty much had the course to ourselves. The Grill snack bar served up some great hamburgers after the round.
Excellent Experience
I was staying in Puerto Morelos for a week and wanted to play two courses. I settled on Gran Coyote and Cancun Country Club. I played Gran Coyote first and wish I had played this course twice. Excellent value for the price but most importantly, the course was in impeccable shape. It was hard to find a blade of grass out of place. Greens were incredibly smooth and quick. This is what vacation golf is meant to be - forgiving fairways, excellent greens, and an interesting layout that makes you want to play again. Highly recommend!
Great course
We had so much fun. Wide fairways and beautiful course. Well taken care of and amazing staff.
Great course!
Definitely plan on playing this track again in the future. I would highly recommend it.
Beautiful course
This is a beautiful and very well maintained course the staff super friendly.
By far my best experience playing golf in México!
Great Course
Just a well maintained beautiful course I would highly recommend to anyone. Staff is also very friendly.
Great Condition
The fairways, rough and green conditions were just excellents, even after all the rain that just had fall, I enjoyed my play. Cant't wait to play it again.
Way better than Hard Rock golf, in Playacar.
Great open course
This course was previously called Grand Coral, but it is still a very nice layout. Fairways and greens are wide and large. Quite a bit of water and lots of sand to keep you on your game. The course was in great shape. Also seeing some of the local wildlife (coatimundi and crocs), is a bonus.
