I have been playing golf at the Winstar since the course first opened as a single 18 hole course. It now has two 18 hole courses.and they both used to be great courses that were always in great condition.
I played there yesterday and, unfortunately, they let the golf course go completely downhill.
It is in the worst shape I have ever seen it in. Don't waste your money. All of the tee boxes and fairways are almost completely bare with no grass. The greens were OK but everything else sucked
THIS GOLF COURSE IS IN TERRIBLE SHAPE AND IS NOT WHAT YOU WOULD EXPECT FROM A CASINO REDORT GOLF COURSE.
Excellent experience all the way around!
Top notch, first-class, and every other description for an amazing golfing experience applies here. I just can't say enough about how great the course is and the SERVICE was second to none. Great practice areas, over-seeded dark green fairways and the greens were rolling fast and true. Every staff member I encountered from the time I parked the car to the time I left was friendly, courteous and welcoming - a rare experience in golf these days. It's obvious there is an established culture of gratitude and excellent service. The post-round $4 draft beers were icing on the cake. I'd been wanting to get up to Winstar Golf forever and I'm glad I finally did. Now I can't wait to get back. Seriously, this ain't no paid endorsement, it is THAT GOOD!
December golf
The course is in very good shape for December. The winter rate definitely makes it a must play. With the condition of the course, friendly staff and other amenities its like playing a private member’s only course.
Slowwwww
Goodnight. Where’s the marshal? A twosome held up the foursome in front of us and we only played 15 holes which took 4 hours and 15 minutes.
Beautiful Day
Course has areas with new sod but it did not negatively impact the day. Great layout, beautiful greens. Really like both courses up here. About 1:20 minute drive from McKinney
If You Like to Lose Golf Balls . . .
If you go into the first rough, the chances of find you ball is less than 50%. If you go into the second rough, forget about it.
Liquor prices are the highest I have paid this year.
Nice course overall but temp conditions really affected play.
Big patches of sod in the fairway kept you from playing short and rolling onto greens. Balls hit onto the green would not hold. Other than these temporary setbacks course was beautiful and food was good. Tough course from any tee.
Most of the course is good
Some repairs are going on, but compared to all other courses this is in pretty good shape for a drought.
Good greens, rough fairways
Greens are in good shape but the fairways are very poor with staff trying to get the track back in shape. There are a lot of areas with fresh sod in the fairways and around the greens. The sod is raised higher than the turf around it which will stop your roll and give you awful bounces.
Very rough shape right now
There are a lot of areas with fresh sod in the fairways and around the greens. The sod is raised higher than the turf around it which will stop your roll and give you awful bounces in the middle of the fairway. Rough is high and course was pretty wet (seemed to not drain well). Played with my wife who likes to hit the ball and roll it up to the green got so mad that quit because 12 or so greens had sod before and the ball would just stop in it. We should have been told about the course conditions before paying $75 per person to play.
Good future
The course staff are very helpful and friendly. Facility is clean and maintained. Pro shop is small but nice. The course did not measure up to the $100 green fee though. I was told a fungus has done damage to the course and large chunks of tee boxes and fairway had been cut out for reseeding. I’m glad they are trying to work on that but in the mean time green fees should reflect that condition. There were large areas that their summer heat had cooked the turf. We were also stuck behind a group that were extremely slow. On a par 5 on the back 9 there were 2 groups in the fairway, 2 groups on the tee box and this group stayed in the green for a total of 12 minutes. When we called the clubhouse at the turn to get some help we were told they weren’t off pace but by a couple of minutes. This was very frustrating and all but killed the entire round. Not sure I will be back. Good possibilities in the future but disappointing for now.
Monday...oops!
Matts only in warmup, and some wet areas around course. Like the irritation system was put in by someone like me..a novice.
No starter all day.
Redbud in great shape
Redbud is in great shape, watering every day.
Only negative is no shower in clubhouse.
Great Staff Beat Up Course
The staff and the facility is top notch but the course is beat up. Until they get the tee boxes fairways and the front of the green to have grass instead of dirt i wont come back. All that being said everyone there was fantastic! The bar tender was fantastic as was the pro shop staff. If management reads this give your staff a raise.
The course needs lots of work
I played the Redbud course because the other one was closed. The course is down to dirt on the tee boxes fairways and just before the greens. Its is not worth $100. The staff in both the restaurant and pro shop are fantastic but the course is beat up. I drove over an hour to get there and feel like it was a wasted trip. Hopefully they can fix it by next season but we will see.
