Glade Springs Village - Woodhaven Course

About
Surrounded by the hills of West Virginia, the Woodhaven Course at Glade Springs Village looks out across the Glade Creek Gorge. It has a unique design with two distinct nine-hole loops, one that overlooks the gorge and tumbles across a series of swales and one that winds through a narrow valley, twisting through mature forests filled with maple, beech, hickory, and oak trees. Natural rock gardens and colorful rhododendrons add even more beauty to the course. One of the toughest holes is the par-4 eighth, which calls for a carry over a ravine. Though the playing area is wide, the hole sharply doglegs left and features a difficult second shot no matter how much you can cut off the tee.

Straight or else
Lived up to reputation. If you want to challenge yourself, this is the course for you. Layout through the hills of WV. Ravines, heavy brush, fast sloping greens. Gotta hit mid fairway else risk watching your ball rest at bottom of hill.green approach best for high shots with backswing; strong forward rolls a penalize. Views are tremendous.
It’s dead
The greens have came back nicely all but two of them. They were well cared for.
The tee boxes are bald and almost impossible to keep balance. Almost like a fairway bunker.
Speaking of fairway. There is grass on a few holes. I feel I got robbed of my money and a 1.5 hour one way drive
Would not recommend
The fairways, some teeboxes and greens were heavily damaged by weather or some other reason.
Meh
Well, we played this course for the first time yesterday. I wasn't impressed. The course is not in good shape but that's understandable considering the sparse rain for months, but what struck me the most is that they should have never built a golf course on this land. It's like the developer just said, "We need another golf course" and told the designer "This is the land it goes on, just do the best you can." It is totally inappropriate for a good track. I don't mind lots of elevation changes (My home course is Fountain Springs) but there are way too many blind shots and shots that require way more skill than the average golfer. I scored reasonably well for a septuagenarian (84) but I can't recommend this course for a golfer with limited skills. Kudos to the staff and facility, though. It's no reflection on them.
Great layout
Course has a fantastic layout challenging for all levels of players. Course is in rough shape at the moment. Lots of burnout on fairways and tee boxes.
Rain will help them greatly but don’t know how fast it will recover.
Have played here before and loved it. We will return again when the conditions are better.
Poor course conditions
I played this course a few months ago and it was a wonderful experience. It was unique, challenging and in great shape. Yesterday I played and it is a completely different course. A third of the fairway grass is dead and some of the greens are in rough shape. 15 in particular is dirt with a small patch of long grass in the bottom of the "halfpipe". The worst course conditions i have played and not worth the money. Greens and fairways in much worse condition than any of the municipal courses in the area. Hopefully this course comes back to life in the fall because i really enjoyed the track when it was in better shape.
Fun
This place is a lot of fun with some great views. Overall really good conditions and greens were rolling great.
Stay away
First off to start off, we went to the Cobb course at Glade Springs to use their range to warm up. They refused to sell us balls because we weren’t playing that course. There were no cars in the parking lot or players on the range. All course are located inside Glade Springs so it shouldn’t have been a problem. Being a PGA member, other courses usually take care of the round for you and help others out but not this place. I had no problem paying for my round and wanted to pay for balls but they refused to give me any at all. We got to our tee time and there was a 5some of members ahead of us that wouldn’t let us play thru. It took 3 hours and 15 minutes to play the front 9 then they left. We played the back 9 in 1 hour and 30 minutes. We don’t play fast but we hit fairways, greens, and putt so it makes us a little faster than others. A couple holes on the front had 3 groups waiting on a single hole for the 5some to finish.
Immaculate course
This course had wonderful fairways, lush lies practically everywhere. The layout was extremely challenging featuring many target golf holes. Very mentally challenging course. Missing the green makes for a tough up and down no matter where you miss. Loved the course and will play again.
Great Place
Woodhaven is always a great place to play. The course is in great shape and the staff take things to the next level. Love it here!
The greens…
Course is a great layout and in great shape except the greens. They were rolling great until aeration about a month ago. Now, a couple are dead and it’s like playing Plinkio with a bouncy ball. Hope it recovers soon. It’s my favorite course.
Lived up to reviews
This course lived up to reviews. Beautiful course, tough layout with many elevation changes. Friendly staff. Only two issues: greens had been punched 2-3 weeks ago which made them a little bumpy and inconsista
nt. Second, be cautious of using GPS to get to course. Mine sent me to a gate that does not open and I had to back track to get in. Almost missed my tee time. But, it was well worth a little work to get there and play. Don't miss playing this course!
Tough but worth it
If you can control your ball there is a decent number to be posted on this monster. Severe elevation changes and forced carries can make the course play different distances.
