Very friendly staff. House in good condition for early season. Played as a 1 ball and not significantly held up. Will definitely play again.
Great Course
We had a fantastic time playing The Astbury. We played at the beginning of January when it was freezing cold and icy. The course was in great condition, a really interesting layout and beautifully kept. Never too wet even though it was winter and we had loads of fun. All the staff were incredibly friendly and personable and the food in the clubhouse is absolutely fantastic. All for a really reasonable price. We'll be back again soon.
Bargain
Lovely 1st time visit. Club shop pro very welcoming and as soon as he knew it was our first time preceeded to give us all the hints on where to play and not too. Showed us where you go for 1st tee and was there to greet us at the end to ask how it went.
Course is very open but as no wind today, not an issue. Fairways were in good condition, rough cut down (very different prospect in summer i imagine). Greens are already quick. Dread to think how fast they will get!
£20 each.... absolute bargain!
Definitely return.
A hidden gem
Having played this a great number of times in the past i have always enjoyed playing this course. The off course facilities are significantly improved and the greens are absolutely brilliant(but try and stay below the hole with your approach). The halfway hut is absolutely fantastic and the course was in great condition even with the rain showers that we had. You have to keep it in the fairway though, find the rough and you will need plenty of golf balls.
What a gem
Immaculate tee to green, best kept course I’ve played in this country for years. Friendly staff in the pro shop. Even though we were running late it wasn’t an issue.
Well Worth A Vusit
We had an excellent round even with the windy conditions, greens were fast but playable, fairways in very good condition considering the weather we’ve had. We’ll definitely be back .. The halfway House is a definite must, you won’t be disappointed.
Really nice.
First time back at the astbury in a few years. Beautiful surroundings, one of the best club houses there is out there. Course was in great condition. Few dampish areas and can tell a few days of rain and it would become rather boggy. Very punishing, a few yards off the fairway and you were in deep rough. Greens were lovely. Friendly staff and halfway house is well worth a stop. Cant fault it at all and for £25 tee time mid morning it was an absolute bargain.
Bland
Walking around the clubhouse building and seeing the 10th hole looks impressive, but once on the course it’s a very bland layout, boring holes. Fairways were uncut and greens were average. Not very impressed. Nice area though
Overall Standard
Played the Astbury in difficult rain conditions but the course was superb given the constant weather barrage of late. It is both beautiful but brutal at times, a proper golf test. The greens are truly amazing, immaculate condition & pro standard easily. So good we playing the course again at the weekend.
Slow slow slow
The course was in decent condition given the amount of rain we have had over the winter, especially the greens , sand in bunkers is excellent and not a puddle in sight, however the pace of play was very very slow and where as a four ball we would usually take around 4 and a quarter hours, the round took almost 5 and a half, we teed off 5 minutes after our booked tee time and we waited approximately 3 to 5 minutes on every single hole , it was a good job the sun was shining or we would have probably walked off, to be fair the cost of the round was only £20 but perhaps this is why it was so painfully slow, everyone and his dog must have booked
The Astbury
Course was very wet, which was to be expected after all the rainfall we had, Surprisingly the bunkers were still fluffy and playable except one or two which were flooded. The greens on the front 9 were immaculate. Rolling very pure and true. Back 9 greens were okay but signs of recent work were obvious. Overall a great course which i will be returning too.
Great Value for Money
I don't live in the area and was away for work. Finished at 3 and wanted to book a tee for just gone 4. Didn't want to spend more than £25 and went for highest rated within 15 miles on the budget. Astbury didn't disappoint. Pro's were really friendly and helpful. Course was immaculate, greens were so pure. Despite the typical English weather dumping rain for the first hour I couldn't of asked for a better visit. Will play again when back in the area.
Top class course
The Astbury is a fantastic challenge for mid to low handicappers. Its is both beautiful but also brutal at times. All the greens are well protected so you have to be on your game to score well. The greens are exceptional, a high competition standard & immaculate condition. The 18th is a brilliant closing hole over water but be warned, if theres a breeze in the air against your tee shot then club up or its splosh! A first class golfing venue, totally recommend. 👍🏻
Great course
The course is great with good greens however like most courses this time of year its holding the water quiet badly.. it probably should of been shut but they've done remarkable to keep it going this long...one of few still open..
Good value for money
Superb
Great golf course and very professional staff love this venue, greens are the best i have ever played on,
The Astbury, what an amazing course!
What an amazing course. On the approach to the course it feels very prestigious and trust me the course will not disappoint you. I can’t wait to play it again.
Wow
Wow, what a brilliant course for the price.
Let’s put aside the strange July weather this course was unbelievable. Allows a test for all standard of golfers from beginners to pros. Plenty of risk and reward holes. Really enjoyed and will defo be back!!
Couldn’t fault it, course is in excellent condition. Best course I’ve played
Would like to play in the summer
Really decent bloke in the club shop, excellent welcome and lovely clubhouse!
Tee boxes and greens were excellent but the rest of the course was a sludgy mess. It wasn’t to be unexpected given the amount of rain we have had during March and April but the green fee felt too high given the state of the fairways and surrounding surfaces. The course itself is a bit undefined and is quite open so big hitters will find it easy I’d have thought. There wasn’t any real standout holes that left a mark on me. The 18th would be an intimidating end to some given the carry over water. We had literally zero run on the fairways but the course didn’t feel long.
Would be interested to play again in the summer. I’d personally advise people to not play it yet for a few more weeks after a prolonged dry period!
