Very average
Single figure handicapper and first time playing the Brabazon, I was expecting big things. Unfortunately I wasn’t overly impressed. The course is very average and the greens were patchy in places. The course is tougher than some with water, bunkers and tiered greens easily coming into play which does make it a little challenging. Only paid £65 so can’t complain too much but I have played better courses for the same or less money. The staff were friendly and helpful and the sausage roll at the half way house was a highlight. The general facilities are very good with a large pro shop and bar area., The putting green prior to the round was nothing like the speed of the greens on the course and the driving range is a little trek from the golf centre. There is a lot of building work going on near the 18th and parking was a nightmare. Very busy course and was paired with two strangers who were very pleasant but mid/high twenty handicaps (we are both single digits) which made our round slow. At least I have ticked this off the bucket list but I won’t be going out of my way to play here again.
Greens are terrible
Course is tough but it’s very pricey for what it is. Greens were awful but fairways and tees were nice. In my opinion I think the PGA National is the best course at the resort. There’s much nicer courses than the Brabazon much cheaper and more interesting around the area as well. I wouldn’t be paying £180 in the summer for this which I’ve heard is the price.
Poor greens
Brabazon is one the best and most challenging golf courses in the country in my opinion. However the greens are in terrible condition. Yes it’s February not July but they shouldn’t be charging &75 a round to play on terrible patchy greens like that. No wonder there were only 4 groups on the course.
Wet but enjoyable
A very tiring round due to having to carry clubs
Never played a course with so many bunkers and water
Vey testing but very enjoyable
Would love to play this course in the summer
Great experience
Wonderful course. The greens were very patchy possibly due to frost damage but otherwise beautiful throughout. Course very difficult for 20-24 handicap players in the cold but should be possible when warmer. Fun nevertheless
The shotgun start and pairing with other random players didn’t cause me any problems personally but I can see that other players may not be happy with this. The course was quite wet in places but mostly very acceptable considering the time of year and the weather. Tee boxes and greens were in great condition. Very challenging and fun course.
Relying on history instead of course condition
It's been a long time since I've played the brabazon at the belfry. I'll not be in any rush to return. Obviously playing in the winter you expect wetter conditions, however for how prestigious the course is the greens were terrible. It wasn't that they were water logged but it looked like hundreds of burned patches all over the greens. Possibly from geese poop? This affected the roll of your ball. There wasn't a single green where this wasn't present. Also, due to the shotgun start the round was ridiculously long at 5 1/2 hours. There were marshals around but at no point did I notice they allowed one group to play through a slower group. For example at the 10th hole there was 3 4 balls waiting to tee off. Shocking
Course shut have been closed
Played this with my son and was full of expectations. In our view the course should have been shut. We hit a number of greens only to see the ball bounce over the back 20 feet high. The same happened when we landed in a bunker!
The leaves were piled high just off the fairway and at times all 4 players were looking for our balls even when we had hit the fairway.
I am sure it is better to play this course in the summer but for me it certainly was value for money.
The only good thing is I spent time playing with my son and our playing partners were lovely
Brabazon
Excellent from start to finish, easy booking in, great driving range facilities course was fantastic as expected and I even managed to drive the 10th ...get in.
Definitely use Golf Now again to play quality courses at reasonable rates.
In top condition
It’s a week before the tour event so you would expect it to be in good condition but was really superb. The greens were pretty much the best greens I’ve ever played on. Awesome at the moment.
Belfry resort
Great course (Brabazon) 3rd time of playing and still a great challenge.
Parking is the biggest issue, work being carried out on the grounds reducing spaces had to just park on any bit of land you could find.
Great day and facilities
The Brabazon!! Absolutely fantastic day out. All the staff are extremely friendly. The club shop is great too. Finally the course, it’s absolutely incredible, I’ve never played a golf course like it. It was in fantastic condition when we played. Would definitely recommend a trip there and it’s one you just have to visit one day
The Brabazon
Course itself is in unbelievable condition, heading to the summer I can only imagine it will get even better, staff were lovely, drinks a little bit pricey but that’s the only negative, p.s go for the green on the 10th
Super Friendly Atmosphere
The course was amazing and lived up to our expectations in terms of playing such an iconic place, even given the time of year and conditions.
But what stands out for me was the friendliness of the staff .. especially the pro who helped us with carry bags and was such a helpful friendly guy.
Amazing
Wow what a course, amazing condition even after a week of rain.
Great course
For the time of year the course was in great condition so no complaints at all and worth every penny....staff from club house to green were also fantastic
Thoroughly enjoyable
Always a pleasure to play the Brabazon. There was a bit of maintenance going on which is to be expected in February. Greens in pretty rough condition and course was set-up off the back tee's which added an extra challenge!
However, the layout of the course is fantastic. There are a number of iconic holes, which are great fun to play.
We all had a really good day and are already looking forward to a return visit.
