Not great
Probably shouldn’t have expected much from a £32.50 round on a Sunday morning, however course was caked in mud. Hard to find grass to hit from. Very soft under foot even with 2 weeks of dry weather. Course is packed in to a small that’s too small for its own good, with some dangerous overlapping areas and greens in danger zones from other tee boxes. Cheap and cheerful but wouldn’t revisit
Poor in my opinion
Tee boxes in very poor condition, fairways are non existent can’t tell if it’s fairway or rough! Double tee boxes just not a very nice course! Greens were good and running well but there is much better courses for the same value.
Strange Layout, but alright course - hard to like though
Found it hard to 'get on' with the course. Although it's very short (seems to be par 3s all over the place) it's still not the easiest to score. There's multiple holes where you use an iron off the tee as due to doglegs etc. - you are somewhat forced to. I think I used my driver 3 times. Starting from the 3rd, you have strange things like trees in the middle of your approach to the green - so you either lay up with an iron over the trees, or aim straight for the green with a 3 wood. There's a few holes like this - strange placements of trees that made no sense and detracted from the hole. Hole 5 again has trees in the middle of the fairway so you need to lay up with an iron to allow you room to the green for the second shot. Hole 9 has a ditch and a dog leg, so you can either take a risky approach cutting the corner with OB on the right, or layup with a 8 iron. Just multiple holes that weren't that fun - short courses can be great when they give you a risk/reward for going for the green, but this didn't really do that well enough.
And while the course was in reasonable nick after some rain, the greens were slow (likely due to the rain, so fair enough) but the tee boxes were very beat up. Pretty slow round due to slow groups in front, but not terrible. Had to fix all of their pitch marks as well so more education on that would be great as it seems there's quite a few beginners on the course.
Excellent greens
Slow play did not help, we had to wait for our buggy so pushed back tee time. Not enough bins or places to put broken tees. Members certainly think they have more rights than visitors but a lovely course nonetheless. Cross over tees and more signage needed.
Poor poor poor
Cranleigh didn’t even have my golf now booking on their system even though I had paid and got confirmation from golf now. Due to the course being booked up we had to walk and start from the 10th hole and then wait and squeeze into a gap at the 1st hole. Not only were other golfers annoyed by this it also meant to pace of play was so slow that after 4hrs we had only played 13holes and had to leave to be able to watch the football match we wanted. As well as this there were stones in the bunkers on the course and it damaged my SW this is not acceptable. I’ve played cranleigh twice and on both occasions things have gone wrong with my booking. So I’m fed up of trying now. The actual course is a nice looking, challenging course but with everything that’s happened and the money you pay to play it’s not worth it! Go to slinford or Cottesmore they’re much better.
Nice parkland course
Can get busy and some slow players. The course is great and varied
Great course
After looking around with limited availability of local courses due to the heavy rain the day before, cranleigh country club was one of the only places with tee times left to book. 14:10 tee time. Greeted in the lovely old barn to pick up scorecard etc. Headed out to the first tee box at 13:55 with no one else there so went straight ahead. Lovely course with a few tricky features and great views over the course. Played 18 and only encountered 2 other groups. Overall a lovely course and only £27 pp at the time. Excellent value for money and will certainly be playing again!
Worth a visit
Cranleigh was in decent condition and the greens firm fast and entertaining. The overall condition of the course was very good. I will definitely play again as it has some simple and some challenging holes.
Disappointed
Over the past 2 weeks I have had 2 tee times cancelled after booking on here, so I decided to call up directly and book. I had a tee time booked however when I got there I was greeted by a smug member of staff simply telling me (with a smile on his face whilst watching a video on his phone) I won’t be playing as course is closed… I was not notified in any way and had just travelled an hour to get there so was very disappointing especially the way it was handled.
Good course
Conditions were wet but the course was still very good. Would be a great course in the summer.
Winter Golf Review
Booked a 3 ball for 9am on the 22/12/23, we usually play courses more local to Guildford but they were all fully booked. We chose Cranleigh over Hurtmore after reading reviews of the course, and we weren’t disappointed. We played off the yellows and although only being 5201 yards, it’s a tricky well laid out course. Some holes are very forgiving off the tee. Majority of holes have temporary tee boxes which was fine for the dog legs and par 3, was difficult to get the tees balanced when using a driver. Fairways were a little long and greens were ok but a little unpredictable. On the whole the course is in good condition considering the poor weather recently. Will definitely we biding again in spring!!
Nice course, clubhouse has room for improvement.
Nice days golf on a Bank Holiday Monday, course was fairly busy but round was too slow as held up by two fourballs a couple of groups ahead who weren't allowing others through. Only other issues were layout/proximity of a few holes (Tee Boxes too close), and some greens seemed to have been over-watered as there were some boggy areas on a few.
Impressive clubhouse structurally, but badly lacking a Pro Shop, dedicated golf amenities totally insufficient. Or if they were available reception did not advise. Also the bar area, spacious with a nice patio. But no food menu's on display which dissuaded me from having some food before or after despite nearly an hour to tee time. If it's available, make menu's readily available without having to ask for them...
Superb first round
I highly recommend this course very tricky but very picturesque and valuable par3s so give it a go and all the staff are very friendly
Very challenging
A very tricky and challenging course for all levels of golfer it's a very picturesque course and lots of wildlife around which is always nice to see, the course layout is confusing when you first play but you soon get use to it and then you can then play to your strengths i highly recommend, shame about the halfway hut is closed but I'm sure that will be open sooner rather than later especially through the winter months for golfers to get warmed up with a hot drink!!!
