Great golf course
Having played Epping before I was looking forward to going round again & it didn’t disappoint , the course condition was superb for early march , tees & fairways were in lovely condition the greens were a little spongy / soft but overall pretty good , I spoke to a couple of other players & they told me just a couple of weeks earlier the course had been flooded & very wet / muddy so the course condition was unbelievable when I played , the staff were all very nice & helpful , the only downside being they have no draughty beer , overall you will enjoy visiting & playing this well kept enjoyable course which I will definitely be returning to very soon
Always worth the visit
Pleasant rolling course in great condition for time of year.
Great value and pleasant staff and members always friendly to visitors.
Not a bad little track
Fairly decent track in pretty good condition considering the weather we have had. Can imagine in summer the greens are really really good. Clubhouse would benefit from serving drinks on draught as it is bottles only.
Better Than Expected
Came down to play 18 and was surprised by to course, most holes had something challenging - hole 2, hole 7 & hole 13 -about it or was easy enough to really be aggressive - hole 1, hole 3 & hole 9. Course was in good enough condition, little boggy areas but that was to be expected this time of year, staff seemed nice and other than getting stuck behind 3 women for a few holes the pace of play was better than I expected. 7.5/10
Kept in good condition
Despite playing in the middle of winter and having plenty of rain the course was kept in excellent condition. No waterlooged areas at all
Epping
Yardage of holes good and reachable for high handicappers but quite hilly . Would be a good idea to have signs showing you where next hole is as found it a bit confusing at times but overall enjoyed playing the course and will play again
Good course
Good course. Just got a little lost as no signs directing you to the next hole. Apart from that it was a good day!
Epping golf course
Played this course after a couple of days of constant rain & it was in amazing condition, very little standing water anywhere greens & tees were great , there are a couple of areas where 2 or 3 tees are close together which could when busy slow things up a bit , but not not for us as it wasn’t overly busy on the day , staff /greenkeepers were very friendly & the clubhouse is a bit basic (no draught beer ) only cans but it didn’t bother us at all. Definitely worth playing especially for the price , will definitely visit again
Epic Epping
Course layout was picturesque and well shaped. Fairways and tee box were good quality. But the greens 😍 fast and the tightest knitted grass I’ve ever seen. I’ve never 3 putted so much in my life and loved it so much.
Lovely little course
Really enjoyed playing Epping. The weather had been pretty grim leading up to the round but the course conditions were great and greens pretty much immaculate.
Great to see groundskeepers out and about continuing to work on the course.
Had a 07:20 Tee time, so walked straight on with no waiting, course was fairly quiet so pace of play wasn't a factor.
The only real negative is the lack of decent signage around some of the Tee boxes. as it can be very confusing, especially for people mew to the course.
Fantastic greens Generous fairways
Played 15 holes Excellent greens It’s a hilly course and its best to get a buggy The course was dry with no standing water on the fairway
Pleasant surprise
Not played this course for a few years after an unsavoury incident with a very aggressive and threatening member, but gave it a go to try somewhere different.
Course was in excellent condition, especially for late in the season with very few fairway divots in evidence and the greens looking almost untouched. Despite it having rained (a lot) recently and some rain on the day, the greens were very fast and with hardly a flat or straight putt anywhere, were very challenging. There was no-one in front of us (2-ball) and we weren't in any hurry, so got round in 3.25 hours, which is very good for courses in this area.
The not so good bits :
- Not all the bunkers have sand in them, some have crushed glass (!!) and unless you want to ruin your clubs, have to be treated as GUR. The 'real' bunkers were very good however.
- Every green had an active hole, and another already cut and prepared. Not sure what they were getting ready for, it just looked a bit odd.
- A weird crossover on the back nine - trek from 15th green to 16th tee takes you immediately in front of another tee so you have to wait for them all to finish teeing off.
- 16th tee moved massively forwards - is now a 205 yard uphill par 4 (previous tee was 50-60 yards further back and much more of a challenge)
- Clubhouse was no longer providing food at 3:30 on a Sunday. I find this approach very odd but sadly all too common (and far from confined to this course) If we were one of the last to come in, I would get it, but there was a group / society / comp in progress with some 30-40 players still out on the course behind us.
Great value
Played this charming course several times and enjoy its mixture of crafty doglegs and up and down nature of the terrain. It was in good condition and well worth the green fee.
Great course, fun and challenging
First time playing Epping and it’s a great course, as a beginner I found it really challenging but still “playable”, beautifully maintained throughout, greens are stunning, great to play.
Accurate iron shots and precise putting are rewarded if you can manage them, plus the “post round” full English breakfast was delicious!
I will definitely be heading back for a round again soon!
Epping Green
Lovely well maintained course , with a mixture of well thought out holes .greens are superb ,well done to all the green keepers .friendly staff .anyone that plays will not be disappointed
Good find
Quite a wonderful course, specially for a beginner like me. Nice staff and friendly members. The signage around some of the courses could certainly be better. Finding the 16th tee after the 15th hole in itself felt like a win, the signage was so poor! Having said that, I’ll certainly be back. Would request the course management to kindly improve the signage
