Course condition
We weren’t told that play was limited to the second cut off the fairway, this was a real disappointment as we felt we didn’t get to experience the course properly, having to drop in the rough after hitting the fairway is poor, we should have been made aware of this when booking. When you pay a premium you don’t expect this to be hidden until you arrive for the day. Took the edge of what should have been a nice experience.
Would of been nice if known before paying £65 that you can’t play off the fairways throughout March
Slow play.
Very slow play and members not letting us through.
There was a women’s comp on too in front of us. Which we should have been made aware of before hand.
Course was in great nick due to the weather and ground staff working all round the course.
Greens weren’t bad.
Great Course in good condition
We played Formby a few days after it had re-opened following closure for a week due to ice and water logging. The course was in Excellent condition and we had a very nice round of golf.
We were lucky to get a hot deal on Golf Now and it was definitely worth the £30 green fee.
The course was a good challenge for our standard , 14 and 20 H/C, it gave opportunities for pars but also had some quite difficult holes to tackle.
We would very much recommend this course , the welcome in the clubhouse was very good and the breakfast in the associated hotel also excellent.
Good value and good layout.
Everyone whom loves golf will like it here Old Formby Hall Golf course .
Great course
The course was in great condition and really enjoyed the round.
Great course
Fairways in great condition for time of year very little standing water. Greens very good but scabby due to 10 bob millionaires not repairing pitch marks shame really. Still very nice course to play this time of year well worth the money
Great course and staff, Members let this place down.
The course is always in great condition, staff are always very helpful and will always help you out.
The attitude of members to non members is what lets this place down. They don’t want you there and give you abuse regarding not being a member. Demanding to play ahead and demanding you to tee off later than booked to let there friends go first.
I will probably play here again but unfortunately pick my times right to try and not be around busy member tee times.
Played here around 6/7 times 1 bad interaction with multiple members on 1 round.
Don’t be fooled by the low rating.
Travelled over to Formby as they have very limited winter restrictions. (With a little hesitation due to the apps rating)
Course - the 9th was on a winter green, made into a par 3 about 160 yards.
Found the course in good condition given all the weather recently could be more critical but it’s winter, all the greens bar the 9th were in good condition and a decent pace probably what we would have expected for winter but ran smooth.
Fairways firm enough you didn’t spend to much time looking for a plugged ball,
Can imagine in summer it’s an absolute belting course.
£29 hot deal a bargain
Really can’t grumble with a £29 hot deal - great value . Greens were really good for this time of year .
The course was wet but weather has been awful recently . I got stuck behind a 3 ball of ladies for 6 holes which was painfully slow . Thankfully they left at the 9th and then the pace was good thereafter
Poor value
At £85 a round it’s not particularly good value. Fairly long but uninteresting. It may be close geographically to famous links courses like Birkdale, Formby and Hillside but it’s essentially a purpose built parkland course
What a let down and so very SLOW
After 2 rounds of golf at some great courses we moved to play Formby Hall championship course, OMG what a let down. The overall course condition was no better than a local municipal course with little attention to some of the tee box’s (forward tees not cut).
We walked off the course after 13 holes which took over 3.5 hours, we spoke to people on the 16th tee and they said they were out for 4.5 hours! On these timings 18 holes would take 5.5 hours totally unacceptable. There were no marshals on the course, when we spoke of our disappointment to the pro shop we were told that they didn’t always have marshals if a number of members were playing.
Overall a real disappointment and a wast of our time and money as there so many great courses in the area. Give this one a miss!
This course never has or will be worth £90 a round it was overpriced at £40! Joke prices
