Beautiful links hidden gem.
Wonderful course for a first links experience. Set around a horse racetrack, some holes require playing across it, it's a not play zone with free drops if you land within the course.
Front 9 was interesting, set very much within the racecourse, crossing over multiple times in the first 4 holes before it opens up a bit to the far end around 6 and 7, then you turn back and alongside a caravan park, a few holes play up and down before reaching the halfway house at the end of the 10th. There are some challenging holes, with a couple of blind tee shots and tricky bunkers to avoid.
But from the 11th the course really comes to life, the 11th is the signature hole, with an elevated tee box looking across a beautfully natural, undulating fairway with thick rough down the right alongside the beach. a sheltered green at the end presents a stunning view back down the hole. 12 is a tough par 3 with more superb views of the sea, playing over gorse. The sequence up to the 17th is a wonderful blend of links and heath play, with a couple of reachable par 5s. The 17th is at odds with the rest of the course, with a parkland feeling par 3 that is surrounded by trees and a large green to aim for, before the 18th plays back out to the racecourse.
Facilities are ok, the clubhouse is lovely and the food and drink very good and well priced. The shop is very small and cramped, staff member was friendly enough but not overly helpful as it was my first time playing there. Wasn't immediately obvious where to go to sign in or anything, no starters hut etc. Driving range isn't signposted and lacks any real facility, warm up nets are helpful but as the range was hard to find, they were busy so couldn't get on before my tee time, which was challenged by a member despite proof. Play was slow but got through the 2 slow groups before cacthing another group on the back 9.
Doesn't dampen a wonderful course, definitely worth a play, especially with friends.
One off visit
Upon turning up, accepted that it had been wet in the days leading up to playing, as such when we was told that 3 holes were out of action we just accepted it. Additional to that we was told that 1 hole was on a temp green, turned out actually 5 additional greens were on temp, and very poor ones at that.
Ok for a 1 off and the greens we actually got to play were very nice. We did get a good deal but wouldn’t pay the full price even if the course was all up and running.
Good day
Enjoyed the course, considering there had been a storm the night before, the course was in good condition. Some interesting holes around he racecourse.
Classic links
Great course racecourse adds interest greens very consistent excellent test of golf will be back Thanks to all at a great club
Great afternoon
Easy to find great conditions bearing in mind the weather we’ve had recently couldn’t get a full round in but got 14 in and for £10 a round each more than happy.
An absolute bargain
Managed to grab a £10 deal thru Golf Now. We had a 13:36 tee time in Feb so knew we wouldn't get to play 18 holes, but for a tenner, who cares. Our 4 ball played 9 holes of stableford and we even managed 5 holes of scramble before it was too dark to continue. The course is in fantastic condition and for February, the greens were fast and true. I've always enjoyed playing here and at this price it can't be beaten.
Enjoyable visit.
Course was in good condition for time of year (late November). A good test. Pro shop was a great help.
A joyful round.
Bucket list ticked to play a links course and it did not disappoint.
Challenging and rewarding none the less, greens were in exceptional condition. Member off staff in the pro shop was extremely helpful in describing the lay out to me.
I very much look forward to returning in the near future 🙌
Burned to a crisp
The course totally burned. Only the greens are green. The rest of the course is brown and dusty. What a shame.
Fantastic Greens
Really enjoyable round, wind moderate but still challenging enough. Greens were excellent, very true and consistent. Would recommend.
