Really interesting course

An interesting course, with 11 holes on the east of the racecourse - flat to rolling - with one particularly tricky par 4 (#3) with a green surrounded by water. You then cross the racecourse and then play another hilly 5 holes, before returning to the east, with the two final holes running back to the racecourse grandstand. Other stand out holes include #12 which climbs up to a blind green and #17 which curves left to right, tightening. Course was in fair condition, although the eastern holes are showing the impact of 6 weeks with no rain.

Lack of grass !

The fairways had a severe lack of grass on them with many a shot being played off mud , the greens were all covered in sand and overall a real shame that the course is in this condition. It was Easter Sunday and it was not busy which is hardly surprising.

Gone downhill badly.

Awful, just awful. I rarely leave reviews but for Lingfield to be accepting money for people to play this course at the moment isn't right. As we got a Hot Deal we got off lightly but it's not any green fee price at the moment. Usually a very good course but today the greens were extremely sandy and barren, fairways nothing but patchy mud and grass and in all honestly it felt like you were trying to play in a ploughed field not a golf course. Back 9 slightly better than front 9 but that's not saying much. Yes all courses are in need of some rain at the moment and work sometimes need to be done but this felt like no greenkeepers are employed at Lingfield anymore. Hope it improves as it was a good course.

Play in the summer

Good length course, good challenge, some narrow tree lined fairways, doglegs and more open holes. The grass was thin, patchy and bumpy in too many places. This may be because it was early spring but it did not make for easy lies which was really my moan about the course.
Presumably in the summer it would be a lot better.

Surprisingly very good

Course was much better than expected, especially at these prices. Good layout with interesting holes that need thinking about. Greens were excellent, as were the staff. Only negative I would say is the quality of the gravel paths that have been hit with water flow and caused mini ravines. When this is the worst you can say, it must have been enjoyable!!

Enjoyable course. Mixture of straight holes that you can drive, lay up and putt to, and other more challenging holes that make you think about club off the tee. Course is in good condition, greens are consistent, although tee boxes too sandy in places

First time at Lingfield

Fairways on the front 9 were unplayable but the fairways on the back 9 were fine. The 18 greens were in wonderful conditions and very quick.

Will be back in the summer.

Boggy

The fairways were rather boggy after recent rains and the first half of the course somewhat claggy underfoot and when one hit the golf ball. We have played this course in summer before and it has been in much better condition when firm underfoot. It was not a great pleasure and, whilst the weather was not bad at all, we will not be playing here again over the winter but will wait until things are drier next year.

Wet and muddy under foot

2nd hole was turned into a Par 3 instead of par 5 but as no notice was given we played it from where the yellow tee would normally be. That was certainly the soggiest fairway. The greens were good considering the rain and som, that drained better were actually quite quick. The fairways hadn't been cut for some time so it was a bit difficult in seeing/finding the ball especially if it plugged or was in a bunch of leaves. However, saying all that still playable and scored reasonably well.

Would recommend the course but wait till a little drier.

Winter golf

I put I would recommend but that would depend on time of year, it’s a good knock but no consistency in terms of condition, to be fair with the weather the greens were good and a good pace but difficult to find the edge of fairway and rough on majority of holes, fairway grass way to long!!

Course in bad state

The course does not drain well, and a number of holes I could not tell the difference between fairway and first cut. The compressor for shoe cleaning was not working. It value for money playing there
