Not ideal.
Course conditions weren’t very good at all. So muddy I had to abandon my trolly half way round as the wheels got clogged with the clay. Greens were muddy and patchy, bunkers had little sand (only saw 1 rake on whole course) and all the roadworks at the bottom of the course has forced a few odd course changes (a par 4 now a par 3 with a astroturf green)
Nice track
A bit quiet when I played here there is some work going on at the bottom of the course. But apart from that it's a very nice course. I will be back in the summer as it's only a 30 minute drive from me . friendly staff the greens are in good condition for the time of year overall it's a nice track.
Good course
Really nice course super lay out. Loads of deer all over the course lovely setting. Very wet in places but that is the weather at the moment good it's still open. Staff superb pro in shop so friendly and bar lady very welcoming definitely go back.
Must and wet
Played Maylands golf course on Sunday 23 February and I gotta say the course should have been closed. It was muddy and sodden with puddles on some fairways. It may be better to play this course in Summer. The staff were very friendly and helpful
How the mighty have fallen
Course was so wet and boggy on fairways and between tees it can only be for financial reasons it was still open. Greens were pockmarked with the usual deer hoof marks - looked dreadful but actually played ok.
Apart from the 5th green which is an artificial one, some 100 yards forward of where the real one should have been. They're clearly feeling the impact of the A12 roadworks and I had heard rumours of them looking to remodel the course, so maybe they're just in a transition ?
The worst bit though, was the allowing of a 5-ball on the course, who (golfing prowess aside) were abysmally slow and held up the groups behind all day with no chance of being allowed through.
They were even spoken to on the 10th tee by a member of staff, which had zero impact. But then again, when all the staff present appear to be under-25 they clearly carried little authority.
It's perhaps unfair to judge a course in the middle of winter, but not too many years ago this was a very prestigious and exclusive course and it's so unrecognisably far from that now that it's such a shame.
Will probably try it again in the summer, maybe when they're finished the remodelling and see how it is then, but I'd be in no rush to go back before then tbh
poor condition right now
used to be a member here about 2 years ago. wanted to return to check it it out again. it does not hold up well in the wet weather. was an absolute quagmire across the fairways and greens, which had been bombarded with birds pecking up the grass. in all honesty it was a travesty to be open, but i know why they do it. 1 hole, the 5th i think was only half the distance it used to be due to road works encroaching on the course due to M25 junction, though this is not stipulated before play. for anyone else, i would wait until the summer to play again.
Played Maylands 9/11/24
Played the course quite a few years ago. My memory of it was alot better standard then than it was yesterday.
£40 fo 9 holes
Golf now gave us 8.30 tee time . Club house seemed surprised on arrival as we was teeing off in-between members finals day . We was asked to tee of on the 10th wich was fine . We was told there was a break in tee times from 10.30 to 11.30 . We completed back 9 and made our way to 1st tee at at 10.30 after toillet break . Was 8 people waiting on tee in front of us in 4 2 balls with 4 ball on green and another 6 behind us . We decided that 45 min to tee off for back 9 ( front ) was gonna be very slow . . And a very long 9 holes . . Seems communication between golf now and gc is minimum . This was a birthday round between friends wich turned out very expensive for 9 holes
Disappointing pace and greens
The pace was so slow that we decided to play the front line again other than keep waiting on the back line
Course conditions
Fairways good tee boxes and greens very poor to be fair to maylands they do have a lot of wild deer running around hence the greens being poor apart from that staff nice and helpful .
Maylands Golf Course
A nice local course, with some challenging holes. Easy to book and really good value for money. I will be returning.
The good and bad
Staff and check in excellent
Parking always a bit of issue as very limited and parking alongside ditch not always easy to get out.
Greens need flattening and bit of tlc to avoid bumpiness
I had a visitor with me who said directions from hole to hole not enough as a new player if not been there before also Needs a decent watering around tees and greens but overall very nice to play
