Great course great views
Great course a must play... Poor greens today having being hollowtined and not dressed, spoiled the round a tab but hey ho that's winter golf.
Nice course
Good variation, some lovely little Par 3s and feel the course is very unique. Definitely need to have a look at home layouts before hand as got caught out a few times.
Interesting layout
An interesting layout with some amazing views. Many of the holes are quirky and have significant attributes that makes them interesting if not a little difficult to read. Greens were generally slow compared to other places played at this time of year. Decided to hire a buggy (£40) which proved to be a good option as there are some steep inclines and travel from green to tee. An enjoyable experience and probably would return if I am in the area again.
Amazing and hard course!
Course was really well kept, beautiful and hard to play. An experience for a high handicapper like me anyway
Overall we thought the course was a good and challenging layout and met expectations from others recommending to play. The first 3 or 4 holes are not particularly interesting but as the round develops there are some challenging and interesting holes, some with quite a few quirks. Mature trees on many holes add interest and challenge. One hole on the back nine has Augusta vibes with its own version of Rae’s Creek on a dog leg left to a well guarded green. 16, 17 & 18 are all particularly memorable. Also the course offers great views across Manchester and Cheshire.
I think the only thing that stops the course from a five star rating would be that most of the greens are all quite small, reasonably flat with minimal variety until the latter few holes. If these were larger and more varied in size, shape and layering this would have the makings of a great course. I would definitely recommend and will on all likelihood revisit.
Tired Course
This is a tired course that needs some TLC and investment.
Had considered this for our Captains trip this year but following our round, not any more!
Golf staff very friendly and attentive, hotel staff less so.
Obvious all the investment is in the Spa and hotel public areas but don’t forget you run a golf course.
Hills, hills, hills
An enjoyable but challenging course, almost no level ground on the course with several blind holes. Would recommend an electronic trolley or buggy as just walking the course is really a workout.
Lots of ground under repair with new paths being laid for buggies. Course quite water logged.
Greens really excellent.
Great Course!
I came up with 2 Friends from Shrewsbury on a freezing cold (1 degree) Sunday afternoon. The two guys working on the bar and in the pro shop were top lads and very helpful! Course was in great condition given the time of year and weather we’ve had all winter. Some nice smaller but tricky par 4’s, great course all round. Will be returning in the summer!
Excellent
First time playing and was really impressed with the course conditions after bad weather
Need to come back in summer
As you’d probably expect at this time of year the course was extremely wet, probably could of done with closing a couple of holes.
Good layout fair condition but a slow round!
The fact this place had 18 main greens at the time of the year and does stay open was impressive in itself although one of the down side to that is the course condition in general is very average and the greens are a little bit rough for the time of year due to this. would definitely like to play in the summer months when all the leaves are on the trees And the greens I imagine would be in better condition. The course layout was very good and had some interesting visuals and some shot shaping required The pace of play was pretty horrendous as a one ball, I went around in three hours fifty…. So overall a good round a competitive price but condition was average and the pace of play left a lot to the imagination.
Good condition
Decent condition for this time of year greens were a little worse for wear but ok for time of year.
Would advise buggy
Very hilly
Buggy’s not available due to course conditions
Check they let buggy’s out prior to booking
Fantastic Course but Pace of Play was so poor.
Firstly, the course itself for December was immaculate. The greens were all in very good conditions as well as the fairways. Played this course before but never in the winter and was very impressed with the condition so big thumbs up for that.
However - the pace of play really let our experience down on Saturday unfortunately. After teeing off at 12pm as a 3 ball, we were confident we would get 18 holes in and beat the light (4pm sunset). However from the 4th tee box to the 15th tee box we were stuck behind a 4 ball who were all over the place and did not allow us to play through even when we were stood on every tee box waiting between 5-10mins to tee. After a phone call to the shop, I was told a message would appear on the groups buggy to warn them of slow play- this didn’t do anything and they continued with slow play.
We had to skip holes 15 & 16 to get ahead of them ultimately which was really disappointing as we really wanted to make sure we played the iconic 18th before we lost the day to darkness. The one thing which could have improved this experience was a marshal ensuring slow play avoided - our buggy was saying it was -30mins behind pace at one point.
A ray of sunshine in the winter
Played 8th November. Blessed by great weather. Really challenging track with the ball played as it lies. Couple of really challenging holes and a couple of great signature holes! Big recommend!
Great Value!
Couldn’t expect better conditions for November. Course was very well presented and the greens were in excellent condition.
Having played the course before is a big advantage as the signage could be much better. Finding where the 7th green will present real difficulties for some first timers!
Great value for money but buggies are too expensive at £40.
Start of October
Course is in a great condition especially considering the time of year. You can see the staff have took allot of time to keep it in this shape post summer. Brilliant round and look forward to going back.
