Great layout, but that's about it.
The greens were well manicured weeds, and were very unpredictable. The staff were friendly, and the layout was nice. The fairways were dead, or just weeds. This would be a nice course if someone would put a little money into it.
Diamond in the Rough
First time playing and visiting Calistoga, stayed at Meadwood resort first night and Solage Calistoga resort the following night. I live in LA, play courses throughout Southern California, I’ll say this course definitely a “Diamond in the Rough” it has much potential for a supreme 9 hole course unfortunately fairways are bit dry. Every hole on course about 90 yards or so to pins are lush and green!! You forget condition of fairways! It seems like course is receiving renovation or a revamped, trees are being planted along several fairways, the pro shop is nice and clean, wildlife on course adds a beautiful therapeutic touch, Looking forward next summer for another fun round.
Mt St. Helena Golf
The city of Calistoga needs to plunk some money out to resurrect a once very fine 9 hole golf course. It seems as though the powers to be do not wish to put any more money than they have to, including watering the fairways.
The greens are in some good shape but the fairways either have long weed grass or hard pan, giving the golfer one heck of a bounce. If you go on a hot deal at least there is some saving grace and no complaints. Otherwise it is not worth the green fee.
Poor sad condition
As much as we have struggled, the locals in Calistoga, it seems the board of directors of the Napa County Fairgrounds including the golf course just does just not get or know how to run a golf course. Between the soggy wet spots and the hard as a rock Brown dry spots it's hard to have any sort of consistent play. Something better be done soon or all will be lost.
Great design, poor conditions
This municipal course was designed by Jack Fleming(Pebble Beach) with some excellent views and well designed holes for a short course. They have issues with sprinkler system and conditions.
A great place to tune up your game and have some fun with your friends.
Pretty sad what's happened
Having played this course for years, I remember it as a sweet little diamond in the rough for Calistoga. I don't know why, but it has fallen into severe disrepair. Parts of the course were green, many were parched, a few were soaked.
Course Needs Water
A typical local municipal golf course. The problem is that they are not getting enough water on the course. They have access to recycled water so that is not the issue. When you ask them why they aren't water more they say a broken sprinkler system. They have been saying that for 3 years. It it time they make it a priority.
Nine Hole Course
Lots of fun, perfect for the short game, and long enough to challenge the every day hacker. There is enough of a challenge even for the most meticulous of golf enthusiasts! Play is easy as no one is trying to press you. Just a neat little upcountry course.
Very dry conditions on fairway.
We are new to golf, so not reviewing as experienced golfers. That said, for the price, and convenience in wine country, glad we could play, given recent rains !
Mt. St. Helena GC
The course is quite stressed at this time, mostly due to water rationing, I suppose. It is not a bad 9 hole track. Would be nice to play it when it is in good condition. Currently has 3 temporary greens. With the condition as is, you can walk for $15. I will be playing again. It is very convenient to where I am staying
What Happened?
What happened to this place? I guess it's kind of like a golf course. Fairways, tee boxes, greens all terrible on what used to be a fun little family course. Only positive was pace of play because there was only a handful of people on the course. And two of them were riding bikes! This course used to be a great value and fun spot for kids and beginner as well as your average golfer. Green fees more than doubled and in return the conditions are Rock bottom. $10 hot deal with cart included was about right for this goat track. What a shame.
small greens views alright
fairgrounds golf course. for the hot deal price worth it .I would not pay more than that. next rv park. & race track,
Lost a ton of balls but still had fun
I played the course after two weeks of rain, so the fairways and rough were uncut and ball magnets. I lost 2-3 balls in the middle of the fairway, and another 3-4 in the "short rough" next to the fairway. Good thing they were mostly found balls anyway.
On the plus side, it was a nice sunny day and the people I met were all nice. I was playing alone, and when I caught up to several groups of 2-3 they let me through without any fuss. Overall a friendly place.
This is not a "bucket list" course, but I would be happy to play it again (hopefully with shorter grass).
pleasant
enjoyed playing several balls at each hole since I was stuck behind an Asian couple who did not speak English and would not let me play through! But I enjoyed it anyway!
don't expect much
this course is in pretty rough condition. save your money and play somewhere else. not even worth the 8 bucks i played with a cart...
Great 9 hole course to swing a club...
there's nothing fancy about this course, but if you want a very relaxed atmosphere in the Upper Valley this is it. And especially when you get the hot deal of $5/per person.
Tree lined course
You have to hi it long and straight to shoot par.
The pace of play is always excellent because there are few golfers out.
