Marine Memorial
Rode the Blues (6865/73.1/132) with John and Rex, who played the Golds. 3H, 20M POP, these Seniors were both fun to play with and quick! Started brisk since we teed off before 7A, but was nice when finishing 18 just after 10A. Fairly calm and clear.
Kikuyu tees were improved from my last visit. Decent coverage and most divots were filled in.
Fairways had good coverage and were decent to good.
Rough had good coverage and could be penal because it's mostly Kikuyu.
Sand traps were well maintained with a decent amount of sand.
Greens were punched a little more than a week ago, so I did not expect them to be good. They must have used small tines, because they were 95% healed. Medium fast and pretty smooth. They accepted irons and pitches with little run out. I actually thought they were better than when I played here a month ago.
Customer service was excellent from everyone encountered. Kudos to Abby, who got me right out so I could make my later tee time elsewhere. No drink cart today. Basic cart with no GPS. Adequate grass driving range with plenty of stalls. Well stocked pro shop. Definitely recommended.
Marine Memorial
Rode the Blues (6865/73.1/132) with Itslikeimsayin, Ben and Shane in slightly more than 4.5H. Tee sheet packed, we waited on most shots AD. Breezy, not too hot and overcast.
Great venue for Mark and I to play our GK Cup match. We both really like the Billy Bell traditional parkland layout set on rolling hills. Most fairways are tree lined with no houses within sight with traps on both sides. Greens were well bunkered and the par 3's were challenging.
Kikuyu tees were the weak link. Some very nice, some poor. Many were lumpy, some crowned and the par 3's in particular needed divot attention.
Fairways had good coverage and were decent to good.
Rough had good coverage and could be penal because it's mostly Kikuyu.
Sand traps were well maintained and all I was in were in good shape with a decent amount of sand.
Greens were only medium speed, they looked quicker than they were. But they were soft and accepted irons and pitches with little run out. They rolled well, but being soft, many had marks that needed to be repaired before you putted.
Customer service was excellent from everyone encountered. Saw the cart gal early in the round. Basic cart with no GPS. Adequate grass driving range with plenty of stalls. Well stocked pro shop. If I lived closer, this course would be in my regular rotation. Base pass required. Definitely recommended.
Great Track for Marines
This course had good routing with the exception of hole 12.
Greens were great. Had some good par threes and great finish hole, double dogleg right and up hill finish.
Sand traps could use a little work.
what A gem!
Well worth the extra effort of checking in at the main gate. Colonel Jim joined us on the back nine and gave us valuable hints on how to tackle this wonderful course. Will definietly play it again...
Cold Santa Anas
Love this course, but man was it cold today. Green are a little spotty on some holes, but overall this course is a true gem.
marine course at pendelton
this is my home course. it is really really nice. fairways are solid grass.. greens soft, bunkers have white sand. trees are in the right places. need a pass to get on base. that's a big pain. it is too nice for all you guys. please don't play here and ruin the easy pace of play.
Slow greens.fair conditions
Decent layout with lots of bad spots in fairways.
Uneven tees.
Marine Memorial 1st Round
Tee off at 12:35 played in a 3-some each riding in own cart..
Played in 3.5 hours. Nice layout.
Hot, but tolerable
Waited a while because I played too much this week. Usually once a week, this week four times. Found a good round at Marine Memorial and took it. Paired with two other singles. Only thing you should be aware of is on #13 I saw a baby rattlesnake coming across the green we just putted out on. Tried to get him off the green, but he was resistant. I don't mind snakes and don't want to see them hurt, but I'm not picking them up if they rattle. Hopefully, he made it out alive. But be aware, it's still hot out there, and they are in the bushes that surround this course. Along with the buffalo I have STILL never seen.
Excellent day at the Course
Nice pace. Course looked great. Greens rolled a little slow, but was good.
Labor Day round at Pendleton
Greens were smooth and soft but it took us 5+ hrs to play. Great course!
Best course I've played on all year!
I relocated to SoCal about a year ago, shot golf atLEAST once a week (sometimes twice) and this is by far THE BEST course I've played since I arrived. Well worth the small additional time needed for the security screening process to get onto the base. Staff/personnel kind, courteous, respectful and friendly. Really looking forward to coming back and playing it again. Thankyou, Uncle Sam!
Ed
Played course in mid day....nobody in front and nobody in back (3 hrs and 40 mins). Greens in good shape and rolled smoothly. Could use some more sand in the bunkers but the layout is a good one with last' year's improvements
No Entry
Usually play this course a lot. But for some reason they wouldn't let us on the base today to play. Gave them our IDs even after calling to set up the requirements like they asked. Not sure when we will play again since I don't want to be denied access.
Gorgeous course
Not a house to be seen!
Fun layout, lots of strategically growing trees!
Greens I decent shape, a bit bumpy late afternoon.
Fairways are lush, bunkers full of sand.
A few tee boxes were uneven and bare, but looks like they are going to be worked on as the course prepares for the Armed forces championships at the end of July!
Very fun day!
