Convenience, consistency, and friendly service are GOLD at the end of a complicated week
I have been hitting River Oaks Golf Course quite a bit in the last few months and could confidently say their consistency is admirable: staff service is always friendly and great, greens are well kept, course is challenging but not too difficult, priced so that golfers could go out once a week (or more). River Oaks' big ticket seller is that it's ideal for the last minute "Let's get a round of golf in today". Not complicated or pretentious, just fun!
River Oaks Golf
If you haven't played this course lately you owe yourself a visit. The back nine has recently opened after the 2017 flood, with the lengthened tee boxes and new expanded greens the holes are playing well. It is apparent that the new owners have been working hard in bringing this course back from the dismal condition of the past. The top nine greens are in excellent condition and the bottom nine greens are catching up. Inexpensive to play with a friendly staff. Noticed that the Golf Advisor had the greens listed as Bermuda grass I am pretty sure they planted as Bent grass.
It's not even considered a golf course
I wouldn't waste time to play here even its free
The greens are worse than the fairways
It's abandoned course. The golf club should have warned me how is the conditions of the course
You can go there to hit the bucket of range balls but don't pay for the green fees $15.00
for 18 holes. Its 9 hole course except couple of
Holes they consider it par 4
Overseeding? Can't recommend
I seldom give a course a bad review, but I'm afraid that I can't really recommend this course. Its a shame because there does seem to be potential here. The holes are varied and interesting for the most part, although I did not like the consecutive blind par 3 holes on the back nine. The main problem with this course was the conditions. I had not played this course before, so I'm not sure if the conditions are ordinarily like this, and they may have recently undergone some over seeding, but it really was not good. Some of the greens were 90% dirt, the only "grass" were some weeds poking through the dirt, seriously. Most of the greens were still mostly grass, but all of them had significant areas which were just dirt. On the other hand, the fairways were overgrown in places, making it difficult to push your cart. There were also large clumps of grass clippings in the fairways which made it hard to find your ball at times. I'm hoping that I just caught the course on a bad day, but I can't recommend it at this time, particularly when other courses in the area are better for a similar price.
Sir,
I am so sorry you had a poor experience. Our staff at River Oaks has been working diligently since taking over ownership back in August of 2015. If you played the course last summer, you know that it has came a long ways! That being said, the back 9 still has a little ways to go to get to the standards we expect. We plan to revamp the course and get it back in the same shape it was in its glory days. If you'd like, we'd be happy to make it up to you. Give me a call at (209)537-4653, my name is Adam. I'd be happy to make it up to you. Thank you.
