Great Time
Great views, course is in good condition, hilly if you want to walk, and overall a great time.
Good Not Great
Upon arrival, my playing partner and I were stunned by the views. We checked in, hoping to buy a few beers and snacks for our round, but were informed that the restaurant and bar were closed, on a Saturday, at 3pm.
The snack shop was open but had no food. It was closed when we came by on the turn at 5pm.
Overall, the course is stunning, and a good value, but the service on this particular day was not terrific. Hoping for a better experience next time.
Mediocre
No idea why they are opening this ‘private’ course to the public. Played twice on two separate weekends, and course was busy/slow on both occasions. If I were a member, well, i’d no longer be a member. I was trying to talk myself into joining before playing - not even a consideration now. Staff not welcoming. Course ‘fine’. Pace of play abysmal. Amenities non-existent.
Berkeley Country Club
Very nice course. Very good conditions. Some holes reminiscent of Spyglass and Pebble. Great views of the Bay.
Cool track
Got a member for a day deal for 67 bucks on GN. First time playing here, and I enjoyed it a lot. Very hilly course. I think I only had a handful of shots all day that I didn't have to club up or down due to the elevation change, which you really need to respect because I was consistently coming up short on uphill shots. Beautiful views of the bay and SF. Course was in pretty nice shape, no complaints. On the first hole the group in front of us had a player take about 10 shots to reach the green, but they immediately let us play through on the second and we didn't have to wait to hit another shot until probably the 14th. Finished in about 3 1/2 hrs. Will definitely buy that deal again if I see it.
Course I’m great shape and beautiful, tough layout
Super friendly staff. Some tight holes and other holes that are more open. Lots of variety and fast and true greens. Highly recommended to play while they offer available tee times on Golfnow (it normally is a purely private course without access to the public)
Kinda of rude
Yes. This is private and it seems members was not in favor of letting public play at their course. They call us MF. Stands for member for a day. But it seems they meant mother F. Honestly was thinking of joining but not! Second class we were treated. But they need to realize you need membership and cash to up keep this course. Unless the old peeps there’s want to double their fees. Good luck. You will need it.
A name change nods to the past
The Mira Vista Golf & Country Club is no more. The private club located on a wildly rolling site in the Berkeley Hills is once again the Berkeley Country Club, its original name when it hosted the 1929 Berkeley Open won by Horton Smith (the first Masters winner).
The downhill holes are simply spectacular with views stretching for miles past the port of Oakland and into the San Francisco Bay. I felt like I was on a roller coaster ride - flying downhill one minute and then trudging painfully uphill the next. Because of these climbs, the course plays much longer than the card indicates. A 2011 renovation by Forrest Richardson solved one major routing issue (a par 3 over a road) and generally spruced things up. If you get a chance to play it, do it. Not only is it considered one of the Bay Area's hidden gems, but the members have earned a reputation as a friendly lot, something I can attest to after the hospitality at a fall media day event.
Hidden Gem!
This course is completely under the radar! It is in great shape. It's a very entertaining couse to play! The par 5s are all reachable as well as a reachable par 4. The greens are awesome and roll very true. They are hard however, which helps protect the course from shooting lights out. The views have to be the best in the bay area and the membership cost is very manageable for a young professional/avid golfer. I don't regret joining one bit!
Great track
This is one of the best kept secrets in Northern California. The course is absolutely superb and a challenge for golfers of every ability from high handicappers to scratch golfers. One of the very few private clubs that is truly diverse and inclusive in every way, Mira Vista makes all players welcome and offers them a challenge Unllike anything else in California. The views are the finest I have ever seen on any golf course in the United States or the United Kingdom.
Great Renovation
Great track to walk. Really like the redone greens. They rolled really true but were a little slower than they appear. Really like the changes they made giving new looks on some of the holes. Also thought the new black carts were a clean look.
