Reynolds Lake Oconee - The Preserve Course

About
The Preserve, designed by Bob Cupp and opened in 1988, is the original golf course built at Reynolds Lake Oconee and offers a host of subtle challenges in the form of swales, depressions, undulations, fall-away slopes and false fronts. The layout takes full advantage of the natural, rolling topography with the end result being an extremely playable golf course for low handicappers and beginners. The Preserve is also home to "The Quick Six," a six-hole loop of a course within a course where each hole is less than 130 yards and can be played in about an hour.

Good restrooms for the ladies
This course has many restrooms so drink up there are
Many opportunities to recycle the beers . This course has water holes, sand traps, putting greens and uses flag stocks marking where the hole is on greens.
Play in the winter to avoid sunburns.
Austere bunkering lets terrain do the talking
Many golf courses are over-bunkered. Rather than strategic hazards, bunkers often become crutches used by architects to add "character" or "eye candy" to a course. Which makes it refreshing to see a course with relatively few.
To be fair, flat courses often need bunkers to be interesting.
The Preserve has barely a dozen and a half bunkers, which is appropriate given the significant natural rise and fall of most of the hole corridors. Uphill shots abound, but due to light bunkering and plenty of gathering slopes, such shots are manageable. The front-nine holes by Lake Oconee offer only token looks, unfortunately, but overall The Preserve is an enjoyable layout for members and guests.
A solid fourth option at Reynolds Plantation
With six strong golf courses, it's easy for a course to get lost in the shuffle at Reynolds Plantation. That's sort of what happens at the Plantation course. It doesn't have as many lake holes as Great Waters and the Oconee course. It's not as highly regarded as the 27-hole National course by Tom Fazio, either.
But, when comparing it to most courses in most places, the Plantation is quite good.
Some nice elevated tee shots keep it fun and playable. The trees lining the fairways never feel like they're crowding the tee shots, yet you can still finding yourself fishing your ball out of them if you're not swinging well. Overall, a solid - not spectacular - choice.
Outstanding course in a beautiful setting
The Plantation Course at Reynolds Plantation was my first private members course. I was astounded with every aspect of Reynolds Plantation from the service and amenities to the course conditions. The courses are well-maintained and in excellent condition. A few of the courses offer challenging lakeside shots and others require forced carries or conservative club selection based on power.
I would recommend the Plantation Course to anyone.
