Great value
Played for about $25. Was a bit weary based on previous posts. However, I was pleasantly surprised. Greens where amazing, fairways where fair. Had a fun little round. Nobody there played in under 4 hours. Worth it under $40
So this is how it's supposed to be !!!
Showed up to play and course was deserted first inclination was oh oh.Got on course and realized how great this course was and the greens " wow" true n fast.If u were wondering how pros ram those 5 footers in they put on these greens buddy.Staff n course are top of the line, one thing though the front nine n back mine are a tale of two courses one consistent is the greens, awesome.Tee it up at this beauty and enjoy.
Poor conditions for private club
You would expect more from a private club, in my opinion. My main complaint was the quality of the greens: it seems like there are ballmarks of every golfer for the last five days, nobody fixes them there. Greens were supposed to be fast, they were slow and unpredictable. Lots of brown spots. Fairways full of leaves which makes looking for your ball difficult.
Pros and cons
From tee to green, course was in solid shape but the greens were heavily water and were difficult to play on.
Private Course in Poway
First time playing the course. Course was in great condition. Played Monday, and walked the 18. Started early morning, and was very few golfers on the course at that time. Finished the 18 holes in 3hrs 3minutes. Fairly flat going out, needed to be part billy goat on the back, as it was hilly, but a fair and interesting course. I would definitely play the course again and would recommend the course to others .It's nice to see more private courses opening up play to the public.
Too bad it's only on Monday's
Did the $35 afternoon tee time from Golf Now. There was practically no one on the course. Played as a single so it was a bit more challenging without anyone to show me the way members play the holes. The course was in great condition. If I have another Monday off I'd consider playing it again.
Ghost town
Monday is mowing day. They close the driving range between 11-2. Only a handful on the course. Golfed by myself. Took me less than 2 1/2 hours to complete 18 holes. Course was in good condition. Ground was surprisingly soft.
Somewhat difficult- excellent greens
The greens held nicely and were fast and true.
I didn't putt to well because it is a hilly course with breaks that are tough to read. I think you need a few times on the course to figure out the breaks. Some of the holes like 13 &14 are narrow with OB's left and right. Bunkers had great sand and played true. I really enjoyed the whole course and definitely would recommend it.
Thank You,
Bob Allen
This course is going down hill very quickly. It is sad to see this happening to a nice course.
This is a nice course but is poorly managed. There is no food and drink service.
The greens are the main defense on this course
I played on a maintainance day when the members don't play this private course. Last year they began opening to the public one or two Mondays each month. The price was right and the course is good for the golf ego.
great greens
This is a fun course. With elevation changes tough driving and wicked little greens. I enjoy putting and thus place has the old school small green feel with modern tiered greens. Definatley a shot makers coirse with alot of risk reward shots available.
Good but not great
Don't look for any stereo-typical stellar conditions commonly associated with private clubs. Tee boxes weren't level. Fairways had dirt patches. Rough was good and playable. The only thing that I found that separated itself from most public or semi-private courses were the greens. They were excellent. These were some of the best in the San Diego area, and I've played them all.
Points of interest: This course opens up to the public on Monday's only and that's maintenance day. They close the range at 11AM. So, if you're a warm up rat, then get an earlier tee time. Expect work crews working the course. You may encounter freshly watered fairways and greens.
Club is an older club with older amenities. But don't expect to use any of them anyway.
Warm up areas are small and have limited flight golf balls.
OB everywhere.
Overall I give it a good rating because of pace of play and greens conditions and it was moderately priced.
Private course needs some TLC!
Stoneridge is a private course that apparently only books to us commoners on Mondays. I used my Golf Now reward to play here for the first time. The fairways were in poor shape. The greens were nice but hard and didn't hold well. The tee blocks were decent. The front nine is flat and pretty unappealing. The back nine is hilly and very scenic. Love the back nine! Overall, the course is overpriced for it's condition. I was in love with this course back around 1990 when it hosted a few LPGA tournaments. Times have changed...
