San Juan Hills Golf Club

About
Tucked away in the hills of San Juan Capistrano, San Juan Golf Course is situated midway between Los Angeles and San Diego. Its location is conveniently close to Legoland, Disneyland, the San Diego Zoo, and miles of sandy beaches. The championship golf course underwent a major renovation of its fairways and greens, making them some of the best in south Orange County. The layout consists of a diverse array of holes that range in length from short to long and some are hilly while others are flatter. Being a public golf course and having a versatile layout, San Juan G.C. is a popular place for tournaments and events. At either end of the course there are practice facilities as well. On the west side you'll find a putting green and sand bunker as well as a chipping area, and on the other end you'll find a grass driving range.

Premium price for not a premium course
Not worth the $109 when I can play two (2) or more rounds on similar courses for the same price as playing one time here.
Perfect Condition
I feel like I should not write a positive review as it will attract more players, therefore, limiting the times I can play!
The course has never been in better shape. It is challenging and layout very methodically.
Enjoy!
.
Pretty much wide open with challenging greens.
I booked as a single and was partnered with a twosome and we had a good day on the course, although the cool heavy air and wind made it a little more of a challenge. Will be back.
Course is in great condition
I haven't played this course for a while. The course condition is great even though it was cart path only due to the wet weather in past several days. Weather was perfect and we had a blast!
Membership vs New Upgraded Prepurchase Membership
As a member of the In-Club at San Juan Hills I just tried to book a tee time for next Monday on the tee time section of the website. I was told I could not unless I pre-purchased “an upgraded in club membership for $175”. It’s a good deal but the GM said I couldn’t play, even as a member, unless I purchased the package! The GM said I could book a time when the course opened to the public. I guess the in club members are considered public,. It seems they’re charging/offering a prepaid fee to play 5 rounds to play now or you have to wait until they open to the public, regardless if your a member or not. I didn’t think, the general manager hanging up on me was professional. Don’t know why, but guess it’s because he couldn’t explain/justify why, as a member in good standing, I couldn’t book a round offered on the website @$50 but have to purchase 5 rounds in advance for $175. Didn’t make sense!
Another good day in South Orange County!
Was teamed up with a couple of good gentlemen as well as good golfers. The course was in good shape and the temps were warmer than expected. Overall had a good day!
Good mostly wide open course.
Greens are almost a 100% recovered from last aerification and are running true. Overall course is in really good shape and was fun to play.
BEST GC in the area
I have been this GC 3 times after 12:00 pm with two times I could not finish the 18 holes.
Very Nice Course
Course has a very nice layout. Reasonably priced course. Very good staff. The day that played was unfortunate because it had rained the night before & was extremely wet...cart path only.
Very beautiful, very demanding course.
Very nice course with a lot of elevation changes. The conditions were very good, greens were excellent! Bring your A game, and if you play from the blues be a little humble and move up to the whites. Enjoy the terrific views from some of the elevated tees.
Good mostly wide open course.
Greens are getting better and rolled pretty true, but still show signs of aeration several weeks ago. Still too many unexplained wet spots. Played with 3 regulars and had a very good day!
Starters has no clue
Starter was plain bad. The only thing that saved this outing was respectful playing partners. Staff needs tons of work. Updated carts but seems like another overpriced golf course trying to make up for unqualified staff. A shame and waste of good layout.
Good mostly wide open course.
Excellent staff and good golf course. . .just need to recover a little quicker from aeration.
Love this course.
I have been planing SJH nearly every week for over a year. I joined the club and get a slight break on the cost, but there is no "senior" rate available. The course is well maintained, but sometimes those who maintain it are not very sensitive to the fact that people are waiting to play. A couple of times we have had to hit while dodging sprinklers. The clubhouse staff is excellent and food it good, though sometimes the servers could be a bit more with it. All-in-all this is a beautiful course nestled in the hills of San Juan Capistrano and I would recommend it for players of all levels.
Good mostly wide open course.
Had a good day on the course, but surprised that the greens were not better after punching several weeks ago. Fairways were pretty good but did have some unexpected wet areas. Slow foursome ahead of us made us finish about 1/2 later than acceptable round. Off course amenities and a friendly accommodating staff are real assets for this course. Will be back.
Poorly maintained
If you enjoy rock hard fairways, dead grass and bumpy greens this place is for you. Not to mention 5+ hours to play. This was on a Monday no less! Beautiful pro shop, clubhouse, restaurant and golf carts but the course condition in equal to Shorecliffs in San Clemente while charging $50+ a round.
