Wailea Golf Club - Emerald Course

About
One of three championship golf courses at Wailea Golf Club on the south side of Maui, the Emerald is one of two at the club designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr. This is a bolder and more modern test compared to next door Old Blue, though it is more playable than the Gold Course. The Emerald was one of the first golf courses in Hawaii to be rated women-friendly by Golf for Women Magazine, an honor the course has won seven times. Playing under 6,900 yards from the championship tees, there are fewer forced carries on the Emerald as well as wider, kinder fairways. The course is also home to a double-green, shared by No. 10 and 17 and bordered by a 2.7 million gallon lake, one of the club's most scenic spots.

Terrific Experience
I just wrote a 3 star review on the Blue course so feel the need to balance the scales. The Emerald course was terrific in every way. Conditions were wonderful with beautiful and true greens - fast without being too fast for resort players. The layout provided a great mix of hole lengths from every par value. Bunkering was variable with some holes having quite a few and others just a couple - and the sand was excellent - firm and very playable. The course had great flow and made great use of the elevation changes available without having any funky holes. There was a nice driving range (although you hit from mats) and practice putting green. Would absolutely play it again and you should too.
Staff bad Course great.
Staff at Gold/Emerald was sub par, a triple bogey performance at best! Not very friendly. Not very informative. Seemed put out to have to answer any questions or be of assistance. No real ammenities for a course of this caliber.
The course was the only thing saving the rating. We played both and the layout, photo opportunities, and overall round was a birdie performance! Be careful of the 900 sandtraps and very challenging greens. But do not pass this up to play.
Spiritual Experience at Wailea Emerald
I played all 3 Wailea courses and they are all great but Emerald was the best of all. It had views, conditions, layout and playability all about perfect. What I thought really differentiated Emerald from Gold was that many greens were defended by shaping rather than just a plethora of bunkers. So you could run up a shot and use the contours around the green to your advantage but you were also at the mercy of some bounces you get out there. Honestly, this might be one of my all time favorite golf courses I have ever played and very much a memorable experience. Highly highly highly recommend.
Excellent Course
This course is top notch, very lush fairways, very enjoyable round, would recommend,
A must play
I can see why this was rated a must play by Golfweek magazine. The middle difficulty course of the 3 at Wailea.
After an error of my own making, I missed my original tee time. Yet, they went out of their way to fit me in to a rather busy schedule
This course starts off with a par 4 downhill, playing straightaway. Stand on the tee, and it is hard to concentrate, with the view facing you.
All the hole play tighter than the Old Blue course. But they also play fair.
Staff is very friendly and helpful.
Practice area sits on a hill. Your clubs are loaded on to pre-staged carts, based on course playing and tee time. They have specific carts designated strictly for range access. So, you do have to transfer clubs. Not a big hassle.
Tees, greens, fairways, and yes bunkers are kept in immaculate condition, and play true.
Enjoyed the round, and was sorry to see the 18th green. Could have gone on for hours longer.
Blame it on the Views!
I didn't play my usual perfect (not) 18 holes but can blame it on the course itself. The views are like non other and can lull you to another place between each hole. So, the magnificent views, coupled with the most beautifully kept grounds I've ever played, are the reasons I may have played beneath my typical par.
The Emerald
A real risk/reward course. As you stand on the elevated first tee taking in the amazing view looking down the steep fairway and thinking "I can drive this green!", think again. Rock outcroppings and steep fall offs near fairways are will what you be contending with should your aggressive play come up short of perfection. I absolutely loved this course and it is set up for scoring and fun, take what the course gives you and you will have the time of your life. And if your game isn't on don't worry, just take a deep breath and take in the amazing views of surrounding islands and then everything will fall into place. The course staff was amazing, as well as pace of play and fairways and greens. I highly recommend this very playable and beautiful course to everyone, if you're gonna play one course make it this one!
Wow what a course.
Paired up with strangers and had a blast playing this golf course.
Challenging shots are rewarded when executed properly.
Would recommend to anyone wanting to have fun playing golf.
Have fun in Wailea
Great, friendly, helpful staff.
Beautiful course with challenging shots and grand views.
Will play again.
Favorite course in Maui
My wife and I played the Emerald course and it was our favorite in Maui (we also played Kapalua Bay Course). Played in the afternoon and the views were breathtaking. Only complaint was when we rented clubs, we didn’t receive any sleeves of balls, which is a tad inconvenient for travelers. Other than that, it was an incredible experience all around. Must play!
Unbelievable Course and Views
A beautiful course in a beautiful location. What more could you ask for? The course is very challenging, but fun, and there are amazing views of the ocean throughout the course. Jungle and heavy bush surround many of the holes so make sure you can keep it straight! Will be back to play this one.
Wailea Golf Club Review
My two boys and I played this course back in June. Our third trip to Maui. If you are on this side of Maui, this is one of the nicest, friendly layouts in Maui. Perfect for first-timers. Lots of slope on the fairways but the greens are fairly flat and not too fast. Some elevation changes on holes but just makes the shots more interesting. Most holes have a nice view of the ocean, which of course, is awesome. Fairly wide open fairways. Great condition. Great staff. After finishing, we just sat out by the clubhouse and soaked it all in. Can't go wrong here. BBoz / Shreveport, LA
Second time better than the first
I played this course 8 years ago during my wedding and it was just as amazing this time as it was then. Perfect conditions and amazing staff. Best course I've ever played
Stunning course
This course was beautifully laid out and had stunning views. Everything was first class from staff to course maintenance. They even have a great restaurant to enjoy after your round.

Emerald the beautiful
Golf in Hawaii is a special treat & the Emerald course @ Wailea on Maui is no exception. From the time you check-in to driving the cart to the stunning 1st tee, nothing is left to chance. The Staff are friendly and the practice facilities great. The course layout is fantastic & they have tee boxes for all levels of players. Views are some of the best on Maui. I’ve played courses from California to Scotland and as far as Thailand, this course is in my top (5).
Can’t wait to return-
Thank you Wailea Emerald.
