Decent course in average neighborhood
Played here on a rainy cold day. Berkeley Hills golf club is located in Duluth, Georgia not to far away from Downtown Atlanta. The course was designed by world golf hall of fame member Gary Player in 1971. Coming into the day lots of people told me it was a incredible golf course as nice as Atlanta Athletic Club and TPC Sugarloaf, however I never got that impression. I played here in the summer too and the course just wasn't that jaw dropping.
The course is in a decent neighborhood but some of the views of the near by streets seemed to be kind of beat. The clubhouse was pretty nice, but the men's grill health score was a 77 which is not very good. The practice facilities are decent with a large putting green and decent range.
The course itself was decent, however the green where very nice. 17 was my favorite hole. The fairways where ok rough was short and tee boxes where in good shape. I found the course to be slightly overrated but I would recommend the course if you are playing in the summer.
Nice vcountry club experience
The reviews so far on this club seem to be centered around the inside of the club which I suppose I would put in the average category - nothing that particularly stood out or disappointed me. The golf however was very good.
I would think that price wise, the course is positioned in the middle range of the local private clubs i.e. On a par with the likes of Crooked Creek, CC of Roswell, etc. but below St. Ives and CC of the South. As such, it stands up very well. The greens are excellent as was the rest of the course condition. The layout is what I would call more of a parkland course with adjacent fairways separated by trees; probably a welcome relief to many of the subdivision courses in the ATL area which can get rather tight.
I like this place and have no hesitation in recommending it to others.
Prepare with your putter!
I have heard that every year some local pros come here and play a few rounds before the Masters because the speed and difficulty of the greens are good preparation. With that said, the greens are very difficult and typically super fast. The greens are usually the courses best defense, next to the many tight tee shots throughout the course. Be sure you can hit high iron shots into greens or they will roll off the back of most greens. Overall, This is a great country club atmosphere and a good course to play. I hope I continue to get invited back here by a few of my friends who are members.
