Could be the best course in the area with revitalization
- Greens are playable, but struggling to recover from aeration.
- Relative to years past, the turf quality has diminished and appears malnourished.
- The areas around many of the greens are in rough shape. Getting up and down is much tougher than the design of the course would normally demand.
- Bunker edges are failing in some areas. Members don't seem to care about raking played areas in bunkers.
- I think both courses at Canongate would benefit from leaning into modern trends with more naturalized rough areas and bunkers. It could help the creative design and contours of the course pop more than they ever have before, and hopefully allow the more resources to be spent on greens, tee boxes, and other high play areas.
Canongate delievers
Canongate is another Clubcorp course that I played with a member. When I got there I was surprised how large the clubhouse was I also saw the water tower from the Highway. When I got here we ate before are noon tee time and shared wings which where delicious. Clubcorp always has buetifully designed clubhouse and decor. The staff was friendly and accomidating to get are round started. The starter was nice and was retired. The driving range had unlimited range balls and a large putting green. 1 is a fun hole and 2 is a tough par 5. Canongate has a lot of unknown bunkers around the course my friend told me about the bunkers which helped. 5 is a good short par 3 and six is a tough hole where you hit iron of the tee then hit over a large ditch. 9 is a great par 4 which technically is the 18th but we started on 10. 11 was a nice start and 12 is buetifully downhill. 13 is another short par 3. 16 is the toughest hole on the course I ended up making a 7 which was the story of my round which was probably why I shot an 82. 18 is buetifully designed and is pretty long. Overall Canongate is underrated and is a great course.
