Kahili Golf Course

About
Kahili Golf Course is positioned on the slopes of the West Maui Mountains, offering picturesque views of the regal Haleakala and the Pacific Ocean.
The world-class layout is a popular stop for visiting and local, amateur and tournament golfers alike. The par-72, 6,554-yard course, constructed in 1991, was designed by Robin Nelson and Rodney Wright.
Elevation changes are the norm at Kahili, with par 3s on the back side laying up and downhill to small greens. A lake and a dry creek bed are in play on the front side, making accuracy a necessity. And the par 5s are short enough to give long hitters a chance at birdies and eagles.
Kahili features beautiful practice facilities with a driving range and putting and chipping greens. Golfers can relax after a round at Kahili Restaurant, which offers good food at value prices. Also, for golfers with larger party needs, the Nahele Banquet Room is the ideal location for weddings, reunions, business meetings and seminars.

Kahili Golf Course Photo submitted by vhendersontr6 on 10/17/2012
Played around 9:30 am alone breezed through in less than 21/2 hours a little breezy 2 club wind so it was a little challenging. Fun course I play whenever I come out!
A little disappointed
Being a Troon member, I was a little disappointed in what I found.
The staff was very friendly, and allowed me to tee of earlier than my tee time.
Arriving at the first tee, I was disappointed to see patches of a broad leaf grass growing. On arrival to the fairways, found large patches of bare dirt and sand. The green also hatch large patches where it looked like the grass had burned out, and just bare dirt. This continued throughout the course. I came upon a course worker with a utility vehicle and a large tank spraying the large blades of grass at the tees and fairways.
The layout of the course is nice, and plays true. I enjoyed the views, but think the course could use a lot of TLC
Must play course on Maui
This is a great track cut through the forest on the side of a mountain. No houses, roads, or other made made structures come into view or play. Lots of elevation changes, but the course more or less is laid out perpendicular to the mountain slope, so you’re basically playing side ways along the mountain. Fairways are wide and well maintained. Greens are excellent. Just a heads up. When the trade winds are blowing this makes for a very challenging game. Expect to add 2-3 clubs into the wind and reduce accordingly with it. Staff are very friendly and accommodating. Nicest public course on Maui in my opinion!
Beautiful Maui Golf Experience
I had the chance to play Kahili during my Honeymoon and was lucky enough to grab the first tee-time on a Saturday morning and pair up with a local to show me around. The weather was perfect, winds were calm, and the temperatures were comfortable. As for the course, conditions were tremendous. Tee-boxes, fairways, greens all nice and green and in great shape. The greens were faster than I expected but rolled true and made a fair test. There are some beautiful holes with vistas of the Maui landscape and I highly recommend giving the course a shot when visiting this beautiful island. Staff was very friendly and the food was top notch as well!

Great Views
As others have stated, the greens definitely need attention as some had bare spots and some looked diseased and were hard to read but they seemed to roll fine. The restaurant was closed but they do have a snack shack and the Pro Shop had 50% off everything except shoes that were 25% off. Lots of challenging lies and the wind was relentless. Super friendly staff, practice range to warm up and practice putting greens. I would definitely play again.
I really enjoyed the course the lay out made for a great day of golf
Decent course in the area
Decent course in the area. Greens are recovering from recent issues was able to book last minute. Played early in am as a twosome and was able to finish in 3 hours after the foursome in front let us pass after the 9th hole. Very windy today. Made it difficult to judge the distance.
If I am in the area again I would play the course again.
Fix The Greens
My wife and I have played all the golf courses on Maui over the past 10 years. We have played Kahili numerous times and it has gone down hill each year. Our recent play was very disappointing. The greens are very poor with brown spots, missing grass and patches of dirt. They need replacing badly just like they did at Maui Dunes.
Secondly, their restaurant has closed and is open only on Friday for a buffet and Sunday for brunch. If you want to be considered as a prime destination for golf, you at least have to have a restaurant to serve customers.
There are much better golf courses to play in Maui that charge the same or less to play.
The staff was friendly and helpful.
Beautiful course, but....
Beautiful course. Loved the scenery and the views. Fabulous clubhouse.
But. The greens. Absolutely atrocious. Not sure what the issue has been but I want to say 14 of 18 we played as 2 putt greens. Pock marked, dead parts. Sand edges on most. Really a beautiful place, but, not going back.
And when we finished at 5:00 pm ish, the facilities were closed. Place was all but deserted.
Mix up in reservation
When I got to the course they didn’t have my golf now reservation. They then tried to charge me 20 more than the GN rate. When I showed them the receipt they honored the GN rate but didn’t allow for the 12 dollar advanced fee I had already paid. This is the only course that I have ever had this problem with and it has now happened twice there.
short and well bunkered
this course was only $50 because they had just aerated the greens and you had to putt on sand. Lots of brown areas, friendly staff
Awesome
Very good value. Great views of the entire island and the ocean. Staff was very nice. We finished our round in less than 4 hours.
Disappointed with Kahili
I have played this course many times in the past and thoroughly enjoyed it. However, this time was a disappointment. The layout is as good as ever but the condition of the course was poor. The greens were especially bad and there was even a temporary green on the 7th hole. I probably will not play it again unless I hear that things have improved dramatically.
