Based on Golf Advisor ratings, we made a weekend trip of golf courses around Rockford, IL. This was a fun course with elevation changes and a good variety of holes.
CONDITIONS: Despite the drought going on in Summer 2023, the course was in okay shape. The greens didn’t run particularly fast, but were consistent and healthy. The fairways were in good shape. Some of the tee boxes had areas that were too firm to put a tee in. The bunkers need some TLC as they were hard with whispy sand, and in some cases just dirt. Lots of pebbles/rocks in the bunkers too.
VALUE: I felt $40 to ride at 3:30pm was at least a Lincoln, if not a Hamilton, too high.
LAYOUT: Biggest compliment I could give… I used every club in my bag! There’s a good variety of par 3s. In the future I would hit less than driver on #13 and #14. The par 5s present a mix of downhill/uphill, short/long challenges as well. And the drive on #5 makes that a well-deserved handicap 1 hole. We didn’t walk this course, but it is walkable and I would next time.
STAFF: Got us paid and out on the course.
PACE: A 3some in front of us could/should have let us thru, but it wasn’t anything that ruined our day. Finished right around 4 hours.
Ledges hasn’t been on Golf Advisor’s “Top in Illinois” list since 2018. IMO, if the conditions were improved just a bit this course has the layout to be right back on that list.
Nice Layout, Great Value
First time playing this track and will come back again. My only negative is there was an abundance of walkers but still finished in 4:20.

Excellent beauty
Even in this late season, the fairways, tees & greens were in great shape. Long layout takes advantage of the natural beauty, especially on the back nine.

good course....horrible staff
I golf here a lot. However I feel like I'm bothering the guy whenever I show up. Much nicer people at the other county courses, unfortunately the Ledges is the best courseof the 3 available.

Best course in the Midwest!
The Ledges is beautiful and scenic. The fairways and greens are perfectly maintained. It is challenging for all golf levels. It is a great experience to play golf here!
