Chevy Chase Country Club
About
Chevy Chase Country Club (formerly known as Traditions at Chevy Chase Country Club) in Wheeling is one of Chicagoland's top public golf facilities. Thomas Bendelow designed the golf course in 1925. The classic layout remained largely the same until 2002 when a major renovation updated the course and made it more challenging. The layout now has deep pot bunkers lined with tall native fescue that border the generous, rolling greens and undulating fairways. Though it is more challenging than it was, the golf course still offers a player-friendly round. Four sets of tees also ensure that golfers can play to their skill level. The course finishes with its signature hole, a par 5 that features water both left and right of the landing area off the tee. Three massive bunkers and yet another pond all fiercely guard the green as well.

Great Track
I‘’be been playing here for years. The updates they have made to course have been great. They got rid of a handful of trees and bunkers that make the course much more enjoyable. They didn’t have a beverage cart on the course which was my only gripe.
Pace of play is a problem
I am sure all courses have this problem but the clientele here is old. I do not think they know how to play fast and waste so much time that it is impossible to play in less then 4 1/2 hours I even asked to pass and they actually thought they were on pace and told me to relax. 4 1/2 hours is not a good pace
Slow play
For a early Monday tee time I wasn't expecting the pace to be this slow. Our group teed off after the group ahead had already teed off on Hole 2. By the 3rd hole we were waiting for them to clear the green. By the 6th hole they were one and a half holes behind. After they went in for a restroom break after nine, I called it quits. 2.5 hours for 9 on Monday morning at 8AM. I realize they don't have on course rangers during the week, but they know where the carts are on the course. They should be able to see a gap and rectify the situation.
Always in good shape nice to go out
Always a good hot deal always in good shape. Staff is always friendly and bring a cart right when you get out the car.
Pretty course, nice staff, good food, slow play
Well maintained and pituresque course, especially the 18th hole. Several holes had splotchy discolored patches, which is the only negative thing I can say about the condition. Nice large tee boxes. Fairways are reasonably wide and easy to hit off the tee. There were several water hazards, but they were easily avoidable and really didnt come in to play much. Sandtraps were abundant and in great condition. Pace of play was a bit slow. It took just over 5 hours to play 18. I got the breakfast sandwich to start the round, which was very good. I also got a hot dog at the turn which came out fast and had all the fixins to choose from. Both were reasonably priced around $8 each. The clubhouse/ bar/ grill was nice, but the bathroom was closed due to an overflow, so porta potties were the only option. The drink cart came though about 4 times during the round. The golf carts have gps and bluetooth speakers to connect your phone to. A small practice green is available, but no driving range. Full price weekend AM rate with cart is around $85, but I found a deal for $68. Great value at $68. Mediocre value at $85.
Customer service
I booked a round on GolfNow and because of scheduling conflicts out of my control I was unable to even get 9 holes in. I went to the golf course anyway because I’m from out of state and wanted to purchase some Chevy Chase merch. I was a little disappointed with the lack of cool stuff but got a towel and 3 golf balls anyway. The two gentleman at the pro shop canceled my tee time on their end so I would not be charged. I will be back when I have more time for a round of golf! (My wife thinks it takes 7-10 hours to finish a round so don’t tell her anything different!)
Course was in great shape for late in the season. Greens rolled very true.
Hi, u000004537192. We are so pleased that you enjoyed your time at Chevy Chase Country Club. We look forward to seeing you on the course soon for another 5-star experience!
The Good and Bad of GPS-enabled carts
Carts with GPS in them are great for determining yardages. These carts also allow you to sync your phone/music with them. Nice. What's not-so-nice is the course's propensity to restrict carts from operating in "sensitive" areas. These carts shut down in places that make no sense. It's annoying and mostly unnecessary for golfers with common sense. Chevy Chase please give us a bit more credit for taking care of the course ourselves and help eliminate the annoyance and frustration that your restrictions impose on your customers.
