Wolf Run nature preserve

WR may have originally been designated for housing but the town said no. Instead, it has become a prairie wild life nature preserve for walking tours, wild indigenous plants, flowers and wildlife. In 1999 I played with my brother and Jerry Heard, competing that week in the Senior PGA event at Speedway. In front of us were Gary McCord and his group. Its tough reputation was a drawing card for the curious. Maybe one of the hardest par 3’s in history. An elevated, smallish green, 243 yard hole surrounded by over a dozen deep bunkers. I believe it’s pictured in your photo. Narrow fairways bordered by ancient woodlands. It was instituted by a local great amateur and his backers, Dr. Jack Leer.

One of the most difficult courses

One of the most difficult courses I have ever played. The course is beautiful and the use of the stream and hilly terrain is very good.

Unfortunately the course has closed and this was a big loss.

Play before it closes. This is the "Jurassic Park" for golfers.

Club head pro told me that this legendary course will be closed in 2018 for urban development. Thus, hurry up and play there if you can.

The layout of bunkers looks like the paws of wolves. and I felt like Dino-size wolves roaming around the course. What a design!

Expect one of the worst scores of your golf life. The ghost of wolves will bite all your balls.
