Golf Advisor: Top Courses in Kentucky (2022 #16)
Reviews
Bad.
Course was in rough condition. Greens were bad. Fairways and roughs were not mowed. Bunkers were dirt instead of sand. We ended up leaving after the 7th hole. Would not recommend.
It’s Fall, I know
However the greens were atrocious, most every bunker had zero to little sand in the and hadn’t been raked in months. Tee boxes were ok, needed to be cut lower. Fairways and rough were what you would expect for a round in October. A couple of greens had some apparent vandalism but that was not mentioned and made putting not even possible.
Course looked rough
I've been to this course in the past couple of years and enjoyed my time there. This time not so much. Multiple greens were in bad shape and burnt. Crab grass was in multiple areas I didn't expect it. The real turn off for me was the sand traps or lack there of. I'm fairly certain every single sand trap had been left to grow in with weeds. I'm not going to pretend to know how this works, I enjoy golfing but I'm not a pro or course designer so I don't know if the long term plan is to let these grow in with grass and weeds or there's some deeper strategy with course management I'm missing here but it looked bad. To add to that they have seemingly left every single sand rake out there too, why? It's like you need to go speak to someone the same way you did when you explained to your son the importance of putting his bike back up when he's finished with it, can we not take care of the equipment? Is that how little attention and care we are providing. I know they are meant to be left outside be come on, if you don't have functional sand traps why clutter up the grounds with unneeded rakes?
Drainage on tee 14 is a complete joke and it was a glaring issue when I played a few years back. The landscaping around the tee has awesome potential but just like the sand traps its apparent someone doesn't care anymore, weeds are think in between shrubs and ornamental trees. Put the constant standing water there really steals the show, fix the leak (if there is one) or cut a simple drain tile in the path to move the water out of their. Again, I'm no course manager but that cant be that hard of an issue to fix with a simple cross drain or some gravel.
Even with these issues I still found enjoyment, especially for the Hot Deals Tee time or $10, with taxes etc. it came out to around $14. For 18 holes at noon I'm not really going to complain about the value that much but man could things be better. There are some really pretty holes that feel designed well and provide a challenge. It also one of the few courses I've played with electric carts which is nice. All in all, I know there is a lot of upkeep associated with a course and I also know there was a lot of it that did look nice but the above issues really distracted me while I was there. In contrast, for the same price Pennyroyal State Park had a much nicer back 9, the front 9 was about the same quality either place. If I had to chose and didn't mind the drive, I'm going to Pennyroyal.
Stay away
I am glad I only paid $14 on golf now for this course. The fairways looked like they haven't been mowed in 2 weeks. Every single green had a lot of crabgrass and bare spots. I wouldn't go back if it was free.
Lost the greens & bunkers
My wife & I have played this course several times & enjoyed it. However the greens are dead, the back nine is closed being reseeded & the bunkers were void of any sand. The tee boxes & fairways were in good shape. Will return when the course recovers. Used a hot time on Golf Now & did not know the conditions until we arrived. It was a beautiful day so we still played.
Poor Clubhouse Management
I booked a 7:30 Tee Time for 2 at Lakeshore Country Club. I live 45 miles from the Course. Upon arriving at the Course, we were informed that there was a Scramble planned for that morning and we would not be able to play and were turned away. Even though I was out just the Golfnow fees (remainder was due at the course) and 90 mile round trip (gas isn't cheap), the Course should be held responsible for notifying Golfnow, and let them know to remove the availability of tee times for that day.
Great time
Had a great time and Scotty is awesome, can’t wait to go back back.
Well worh the drive
Can’t wait to play again when then fairways are green this summer, well worth the 50 mile drive
Great Day
Course is in great shape especially the greens. Will definetly be back.
Nice open course
Great pro shop selection. friendly staff. Fairly open course. Had a blast. Paid 20 each on gn.
Brutally hot but great deal.
Unfortunately we chose one of the hottest days of the summer to play so we had the course to ourselves. Course conditions were somewhat uneven with crabgrass or goosegrass infestations on about half of the holes. But for $13.50 it was a good deal.
Challenging course for a first timer
This was my first time at this course. I will definetly be back. Course was in above average condition except for the bunkers. The tee boxes and fairways were great, as were the greens. Enjoyed my round here even though I played terrible!
