Extraordinary improvement
The staff has done a terrific job of improving conditions damaged by the weather extremes over the last year. The course is in great shape and is one of the best layouts around.
Dead Grass
It's hard to fairly rate this course, because the conditions were terrible. Most of the grass on the course was dead. The course layout was nice and the maintenance of the course (aside from the dead grass) was good. I could have easily rated the course 4-5 if there was live grass. I was very much looking forward to playing this course, but was very disappointed. I'm willing to give it another try in a year or so. It seems like it will take at least that long to get the course back in shape.
More Than Expected
First time that I played Hobbit's Glen. Great layout and great conditions. Not a. divot to be found anywhere. Wide open fairways; could lose a ball even if you tried. Everyone should be able to play this course.
I so want this course to be great but I'm let down every time I play it!
This course has the highest cart fee of any course I've ever played at $19! We played on a day that was 95 degrees outside so walking the course was an extremely far fetched idea. I was able to find a walking rate online at a good price so I figured I would pay the extra usually $10-12 upon arrival which is why I would give this course another chance because it is so close to where I live. To charge customers such a ridiculous cart fee knowing full well that you have such a captive customer just left a sour taste in my mouth! Course layout is solid but it often lacks the condition standards of a course that is usually in this price range! Don't offer an acceptable price up front only to hide the awful cart fees under the radar because I know full well what other courses are charging that are much better than yours! Carts do not cost you that much!
Great and beautiful golf courses
It was tough, challenging & beautiful courses.
Staff was nice.
check in
I told a lady my last name, tee time. They had the record, but she had to see confirmation. I told her my phone is in my car, and she told me I had to get it.
If they have the record, I do not see why she has to see confirmation info. i do not get it.
Happy @ Hobbit's Glen
Thank you Golfnow staff & Hobbit's Glen,(Columbia Association) for making this exceptional course available for us local, "poor" hacks! Great layout, great conditions, especially for February! Love the fast, true rolling greens! Definitely my favorite course in the central MD. area!
Not Bad for late December
First time playing this course and this is normally expensive and private, love the layout no real danger off the tees. Lot of uphill approach shots so it was cool so it was hard to club up, same thing with putting. Slow greens but they did roll true, would love to see this price over the summer to better evaluate as it is a little expensive and you can play courses in this just as equal or better for less $ but all in all I had a great time it did get slow towards the end so check it out you wont be disappointed!
The Greens are challenging but fun.
The fairways & greens are in good condition, the staff is friendly, & pace of play great.
Well kept, nice course.
After having somewhat of a dry spell (most of july 2016). I could not find brown a dry patch of grass on the course. Well done by the groundskeepers.
Now about playing the course.... it is a long"ish" course but it is open enough that if you were just off a little, you weren't penalized too much. Still makes you behave into hitting decent long shots.
All in all, it was fun to play and nothing to be critical about. Which I can't say about other courses I've played in Maryland.
Great Golf Club
Great Golf club for all golfers.
Great layout just needs TLC
Love the new clubhouse. Just wish the money invested into that was reciprocated in the golf course as well. The layout is amazing and combined with the hills and thick rough, it's a solid test of golf. However, the course is burnt out in the fairways but very soft and dead grass or fluffy. The tees are on the thicker side and need rolled or placed better to not create side hill or downhill lies on the tee, or feel like your swinging out of the rough. Lastly, the greens were aerated over 5-6 weeks ago and they are still slow and very bumpy. Hopefully this place gets the TLC it needs. The membership would be full if they spruced the course up.
Would go back
The Bermuda was not all the way back since it was still April. I'd like to play again with the full fairways. The rough was thick so staying in the fairway is a must. The greens rolled well even though you could see spots of po everywhere. I was disappointed that the lounge was closed after my round. It's s tough course to walk and a cold beer would have been a nice way to finish off a solid round.
In good shape
The bermuda is still dormant so, the fairways are brown but, the ball still sits up on them. Greens were aerated a few weeks ago and show some signs of it but are in good shape and fast as usual. Unfortunately, I had the opportunity to sample a number of the sand traps and they were all in good condition as well. As usual, a fun course to play that tests your whole game. The only complaint was that two of our foursome dropped after 9 and we were stuck behind two slow foursomes the entire back nine.
What a great track!
Well, for a November round, the course was in pretty great shape. The shame is that the general public only gets to play it on Monday. But for 20 bucks I made the most of my round! The greens rolled well, the fairways were in great shape and the overall course conditions were pretty dag on good! Had time to get a sandwich before I started my round. Which gave me an opportunity to see the new clubhouse and facilities! It's very state-of-the-art, modern and A heck of an upgrade from the old days. If you have a Monday free and can get to Columbia, Maryland...it will be the best value you can find for 20 to 30 bucks!
Hobbits Glen- Great course, great time
Excellent course in tip-top shape. Must play in the area.
GREAT GOLF COURSE
Played today - first time - visiting from North Carolina. Staff was very friendly -they got me out early. The fairways, tee boxes and greens are in great shape. Layout was loads of fun. Fairways are turning with Fall; but ball rolled well. Great elevation changes, sloping fairways. Hit the ball well and you'll score well. But, not difficult for the higher handicappers. Highly recommend playing this course. I have played many golf courses throughout the East coast. This course is near the top and deserved my Excellent rating.
Hobbits Glen nice day
Course was in great shape, awesome layout... plays loong, have fun play golf!!!
Great course
This is probably the best golf course in the area. The greens have healed from aeration, and the fairways are perfect.
Unexpected aeration
Unexpectedly the fairways were being aerated while we were playing and the greens had just been or recently aerated and covered with sand. No mention of this was made during check in. Ball paths in the sand were apparent on the greens. When it rained during the round, balls rolling on the greens were covered in sand as they made their way to the hole. The new clubhouse is an improvement in appearance with upscale food and beverage but the golf shop still lacks character or distinction. Upscale price, below par experience.
