Don't golf here
Terrible, disheartening experiences here my whole life. I grew up playing golf in Yarmouth at Bayberry and Bass River and have played summers since moving away. As a lover of the game of golf, a 4 handicap, a walker, and someone who values community and positivity, I will not ever play any Yarmouth golf courses again. The pro-shop staff and starters are the main reason. (Grounds-crew / restaurant staff works hard, does a great job, and I appreciate them). The pro-shop staff and starters are condescending, rude, and lack any bit social awareness. It seems that if you are under 35 you get treated like a misbehaving child. I’m not sure who hires the grumpy employees and runs the show, but whoever it is, they do nothing to create an inviting, inclusive culture for guests paying good money to enjoy the sport. They are stuck in the past and ruthlessly enforce petty policies, although they seem to love the heavy drinkers and cart users. I wouldn't recommend these courses to anybody who respects the game, respects themselves, or respects others because you surely won’t interact with anyone who works there that does. Both Bayberry and Bass River have a culture problem. Go literally anywhere else for friendly, down to earth service... and better course designs.
Memorial Day 18
Course was in beautiful shape. It rained the entire Memorial Day weekend. I was supposed to se show well the course drained. Had a great time.
One of my favorite Ross layouts
Bass River has been changed and flipped nines since the original Ross design but you see his hands all over this layout. Playing from the tips makes for an interesting round, especially right out of the gate with three very tight chutes to hit out of on the tees to start your round. In usual Ross fashion, the course does a lot of back and forth allowing you to spray some and end up n another fairway with a have shots into your greens. Bass River also has the trademark Ross turtle back greens on several holes. The course now finishes with a fun par 3 that gives amazing views of the Bass River from the tee. I would highly recommend this course to anyone making their way to Cape Cod.
Great course
The day I played started windy and chilly so the course played long but even though it had rained the day before the course was in great shape
Ross gem
A great Donald Ross. Not long, but challenging. Small, undulating greens. Great turf coverage throughout. Great views. Different shots required throughout. Highly recommended.
Sunday with buddies
Bass river a really nice treat. Staff we friendly and helpful. Course in great shape. Some really cool holes. #9. #11. # 13. All good holes. Only reason it's not 5 star is it starts w a par 3. But that's a building thing. Play here if you can!!
Great golf course
Played early on a Saturday morning, pace of play was a little slow due to it being peak season on the Cape. Some really great and challenging holes, #5 #9 #10 #11. Conditions were excellent tee to green. Hole #9 is a nice signature hole with Bass River running alongside. 19th hole is the best on the Cape.
Comfortable, like a pair of slippers
Well designed, walkable course. Wide fairways for tee shots, but small greens demand good iron play. Front is par 34 & the back, which is more open, is par 38. Course makes you pay attention to score well, but does beat you up if you're a little off. Back patio with river view is the best 19th hole on the Cape.
I have played both Bass River and Bayberry GC. Always have had a pleasant experience. The staff has always been cheerful accommodating and helpful.
You are too young to be making snarky unfounded blanket comments about two golf courses and and their staffs.
