Katke Golf Course

About
Ferris State University's Katke Golf Course is perched atop the highest point in Mecosta County, overlooking miles of rolling countryside. The course has a traditional layout with a rather surprising amount of elevation changes. It remains walkable but the subtly tricky undulations will make it a rigorous workout. Nearly all of the tees and greens are at least slightly elevated. There are more than 40 bunkers strategically placed along the greensides and landing zones and water hazards come into play on six holes. The golf course has a few unique features coming into play as well. Examples include two of the tougher par-3 holes -- there is a wood-walled bunker on the sixth and a rock retaining wall that edges the pond in front of the green on the eighth. Katke Golf Course is a local favorite, known for being one of the best values in the area.

Excellent fairways and greens, traps not so much
Surprised no reviews here on this 50 year old top 25 Nationally ranked college courses. Started early Saturday morning 8/28/21 to beat heat. Worked out great. Round done by noon. Had at least an inch of rain overnight and greens held and rolled super, fairways at or near the best all year.( 60 rounds ytd)
$40 senior decent value on weekend am. Architect likes dogleg left.
Only negative, several washed out poor condition sand traps.
Some minor elevation , a few ponds to contend with. Enjoyable round, friendly college personnel.
Hidden Gem
First time playing this track and was very satisfied with all elements. Surprised by the price of $29 senior rate on a Sunday! Quality of the course made this a tremendous value. The course was in good shape, greens we above average fast. Sand was in great shape and playable. A lot of elevation changes added to the enjoyment. Will add this course to our annual plays.
Awesome Layout
This course is fantastic. I love the layout and varying challenges it brings. The greens are very smooth and roll well.
They also have one of the best practice areas I’ve been to.
It is right off US-131, so very convenient if you are driving by.
Pleasant Round
I had a pleasant round of golf at the Katie. Met up with a gentleman from Philadelphia and a had a good round. Weather was great as well as the course conditions.
Nice Layout, Friendly Staff
Nice clean carts, good course layout. The pace of play is like most courses with with experienced players, like me. I wish there was a good answer to this problem.
Great Experience
Played 18 after 2-3 inches of rain fell in a week. Excellent conditions. Especially for first weekend of may. Greens are very challenging but wonderfully true.
Rainy and wet day
The course was very wet due to lots of rain overnight. Still a good time on the course.
Golf
Very nice place to play, the college is doing a nice job.
Best value for the money
Have played many courses around Michigan and this one ranks at the top thus far as money spent for course playability.
MUST PLAY
For those golfers who like a traditional public materpiece, Katke or Katke National as the locals call it. This place is a hidden gem surrounded by a large university with a outstanding staff and facility. You will enjoy a top of line facility catered to every golfers need.
Katke first
My first visit northern Michigan. Friends encouraged me to play this course. Challenging course construction and a superb value!
Great golfing
This is a good course to play. Good value for the money. I would play here againg
Got to give it to the Bulldogs....nice course....coming from a Laker
The course was somewhat challenging for a moderate player but not so much that it was discouraging. They are doing some maintenance on the course (it was a Wednesday) which meant there were several workers driving around the course. Also, a large bulldozer on Hole #7 was loud and annoying. They moved the tee boxes to one location and it changed the whole "feel" of how you should play that hole. I wish the staff had told us they were doing a lot of work and allowed us to substitute play for Hole #7 with hole #10. The girl in the office was very sweet but they didn't have any course maps so we had to guess at where the flag was. It made it a bit more challenging!
