9-Hole Old School Michigan Hidden Gem
Any time I can play a course built in the 1800s, I jump at the chance. This course is full of old-school charm and quirk and the greens alone are worth the trip to play.
This course has terrific views of the water, gently rolling terrain, wonderful lay of the land architecture and all the quirk you could want. Les Cheneaux is a must play on any UP golf trip.
One of a kind
The greens are in very good shape. The course layout was very fun with the links style, heather, and elevation changes. Holes 2, 6, 7 and 9 could all be considered signature holes. 2 has a great view but an obscured view of the green from the tee box. 6 has an elevated tee box through the trees into a large landing area. 7 offers a fun challenge with a central saddle feature. 9 is a large blind green at 180 yards.
Dont expect lush fairways, that is not the point here. The use of natural features is spot on, and this course fits the area perfectly.
charming setting on an historic links course
I was compelled to play this course by its initial charm and setting. The course is awkward with tees, fairways and greens very close but still a nice walk with great beauty. Some nice undulations and good greens so glad we did it. The icing on the cake was lunch at Les Cheneaux Culinary School Restaurant in Hessel, a few minutes away. Overlooks the marina with lovely outdoor deck.

Interesting to play a course built in 1898 . In good condition. Not a very hard, but it was fun to play.
Only 9 holes. I would not play this course again because there are other better courses in the area.
