Stonehedge South Course at Gull Lake View Golf Club and Resort

About
Gull Lake View Golf Club & Resort is the oldest and largest golf resort in southwest Michigan. It offers five championship courses that draw visitors from throughout the Midwest, Great Lakes, and Canada. Located in Michigan's scenic lake region, all of the courses have a beautiful landscape with scenic views. The Stonehedge South Course is the third out of the five golf courses. Charles Scott, a well known name in the area, designed the course in 1988. The layout plays through rolling, wooded countryside that offers interesting elevation changes throughout. The golf course has a classic layout that calls for a variety of different shots. The greens are quick and gently sloped. Pinpointing a single signature hole is difficult since each one has a unique character and offers a different challenge.

Pace
The pace of play on a Saturday afternoon was shockingly horrible even with a Ranger driving around. We had a 2 some in front of us that we waited for on each tee box on back 9 for 5-10 min. It took us 5 hours to play 18 when we should have been done in less than 4. Very frustrating but probably more a personal frustration than a course issue. Greens were in perfect shape and course and staff were excellent
Cement in the landing area
Slow greens. Every hole has obstacles that force you to commit to aiming for one side of the fairway, and on every hole a cement cart path runs so close to the fairway it’s practically touching it and always on the side the hole design forces you to play towards. So basically there’s a cement path in within a normal shot dispersion’s distance from the target landing area on every tee shot. On most holes to the cement path practically touches the fringe of one side of the green or even wraps all the around the back side of it so imagine being 150yds from pin, hitting a great shot that misses the green by a yard, and losing your ball because it ricocheted off some cement into god-knows-where.
Another Great Gull Lake Course!
Stonehedge South was the 3rd course we played on our trip and did not disappoint! Tight course that requires precise shots off the tee. A lot of undulation and elevated greens! The greenskeeper must have awakened in a bad mood as almost every pin was tucked in the most difficult part of the green! Very well kept course just like the other two we have played. The quality and value at Gull Lake is outstanding!
Tee time booking
The Tee Time that we selected was way too late to be offered for 18 holes. We had to skip around on the back 9 to be able to “finish” the round and really only played 14 holes before it was too dark. There were several other tee times after ours that were offered for an 18 hole round so that’s something you should be looking at.
Very disappointed in the condition of the greens. Very shaggy.
My debut at Stonehedge South, Augusta, MI
As you pull up to the bag drop area at the clubhouse, you can tell that you are in for a great golfing experience. Nice pro shop, friendly staff, beverage carts on the course with a nice bar and outdoor seating area. The course is challenging with lots of trees and stone-stacked walls. The course is very well maintained.
