Pond on 5th and 6th holes. Comes into play on the tee shot on both holes. (About 280 out on 5 and 225 on 6). Makes these two holes much harder. Photo submitted by BuffaloBen15 on 11/16/2020

5th green. Like many greens at HHGC, plateaued. Slopes from back to front generally so stay below the hole. Photo submitted by BuffaloBen15 on 11/16/2020
-
14th green. Long par three is just as difficult as ever. Beautiful sunset. Photo submitted by BuffaloBen15 on 11/16/2020

3rd hole, par three. Short, but green is one of the largest on the course and slopes severely from back right to front left. Photo submitted by BuffaloBen15 on 10/26/2020
-
6th hole, par 4 of about 375. Pond 220 yards off the tee so you have a decision to make. If you bail out left, however, the tree on the left comes into play on your second shot, as it is between the bunker and the green. Photo submitted by BuffaloBen15 on 10/26/2020

14th hole, long par 3 at 190. Made even more difficult by raised green that falls off on all sides and tree that blocks the right half of the green. Photo submitted by BuffaloBen15 on 10/26/2020

15th hole, par 4. Short at 315 but has tree in the middle of the fairway 75 yards from the green. You may want to lay up to a distance far enough where you can shoot over it. Green slopes from left to right and drops off severely on the right side Photo submitted by BuffaloBen15 on 10/26/2020
Another Great Experience! Way to go Hickory Hollow!
Played the course on Friday right after school. It’s become one of my regular stops and will continue to be. It was 45 degrees with 25mph wind gusts so it was tough playing that day and there were only 2 or 3 other groups out there on the entire course. I had to finish in 3 hours 45 minutes before dark and I was afraid the man in the clubhouse wouldn’t let me on even though the course was wide open. However, he did and I was so relieved. The price of 21 dollars to walk on Monday-Friday and 25 dollars on the weekends is a very good deal. I’ve played courses twice expensive as HHGC that aren’t in any better condition. The greens were in very good shape for it being late November. The bunkers were in good shape and filled to a good level. The fairways were in good shape, no patchiness anywhere on any holes, (other then open divots). All good stuff. I found the course to be a little more difficult than a 69.7 though. Especially for it being a 73, I think the course plays much harder than 3 strokes under par. It’s more like 70.7 and I think they need to do a few updates just so people’s matches and stuff can be more accurate (they have a lot of leagues that play there). I shot 83 which was good considering the conditions. Probably made me a little more generous on this review than my 4 star review of this place last month. I will be back!

A Nice Classic Style Golf Course
I saw a YouTube channel I like course vlog and review this place and I was immediately interested. It looked very challenging, difficult par threes and fives, all of them north of 500 yards so not those par four-and-a-halfs you see everywhere. I played after school on Friday and I had a great time. Excellent rate at 21 dollars to walk and I don’t think it’s ever anymore than 35 with a cart. I was very interested in all the plateaued greens with 2-3 yard wide fairway circles around all of them so chip shots were difficult. It didn’t go straight from green to rough which I thought was an interesting and challenging feature. Lots of small ponds everywhere which give you both risky options and safe options off the tee, especially on the front nine. Short par fours make up for the lack of distance with trees everywhere, one even in the middle of the fairway! Tee boxes, bunkers, and greens were all in excellent condition especially for October in Michigan. Only thing keeping it from five stars is the bumpy cart paths and the fairway grass being just a tad too long, but you can expect that from many public courses. Another great metro Detroit golf course! I will be back!
