PACE: Played as a single behind some 3somes. Never had anyone behind me. Enjoyed the day!
CONDITOINS: Tees, fairways, bunkers, and greens all in excellent condition.
STAFF: Got me paid and out to the first tee. The ranger/starter was very helpful and nice.
VALUE: Seemed a bit steep given no included warm up balls or GPS in the carts.
LAYOUT: Really fun course with a great variety of holes (used every club in the bag). Wish I could walk this course, but the cross-country hike from #3 to #4 removes that possibility (it's like a 5 minute drive in your cart). Great use of the elevation around the course (holes #9, and #15 thru #17).
Very Pleasant - Recommend
Based on a thumbs up by a friend who lives full time north of Traverse City I've wanted to venture to Hidden River for several years. I was not disappointed - enjoyed my afternoon and had a wonderful experience. I played just before their summer rates took effect but even then I wouldn't have objected to a higher summer rate post round. Everyone I interacted was friendly and helpful (from bag drop to proshop to food/bar to groundskeeping). They routed us back nine first then to front nine and I have to say it enhanced my experience and after my first round here I would prefer to play the course that way. The first three holes of the front nine are not overly taxing and flat.....and there's a long picturesque drive to the 4th tee.....pleased this was part of my actual back nine. A fun course to play and it was in great shape - tees/fairways/traps/greens running smooth. A well designed track - just enough elevation changes and interesting green sites. The front nine contains several open holes while the back nine flows nicely through the Northern Michigan forest. Full range for warm up. The view from the clubhouse deck is very nice - river view and the downhill Par 3 9th hole green - which was a perfect finisher to my day. Recommend wholeheartedly. Worth seeking out. 4.5 stars.
Consistently Excellent
Never disappointing - Always pristine! A must play when in Northern Michigan!!!
Hidden River is a Hidden Gem
My wife and I golfed here for the first time despite living in the near vicinity (Traverse City). I have often heard of this course but never been there. It is my loss. The setting is peaceful and beautiful. There is an excellent oversite of the course flow by the player assistants (thanks Mike) and the staff is friendly and helpful. The layout of the course is stunning and varied, with both open area holes (of course bracketed by water) and wooded holes along the river. Sitting at the outdoor patio post round overlooking the river we saw a mink working along the river's edge. Great ending to a great day at a new favorite course.
Highly recommend the Hidden River Golf Club in Brutus, Michigan!
I just can not say enough about the great experience we had playing at the Hidden River Golf Club! My bud and I lucked out in that we played on a Monday which is seniors day, so the price half the normal rate. Given the excellent quality of the course, greens, facilities and staff, it would have been a bargain still at the full rate. I found the staff to be very polite and professional from the moment we dropped our bags to checking in to getting assistance on the course (this being our first time playing Hidden River). The fairways were lush and well tended to. Old divots were not and issue--and the staff reminded us to attend to ours as well. The greens were well manicured, without any dry patches and rolled very true. Most of the fairways are lined with tall straight trees--very picturesque (so long as you stay out of jail). We highly enjoyed both playing the course and the scenic views. While we did not dine at their restaurant, the facilities were all very clean and, again, the staff were both helpful and extremely polite.
Excellent course
Great up north course. Well laid out and kept in great condition. Even with rain the day we played, greens were fast. Highly recommend!
Great Course, Great Restaurant
What a treat! Great scenery on almost every hole. Thoroughly enjoyed playing this northern Michigan wooded gem.
We stayed for dinner and found a fresh menu with a variety of the chef's creations. Our table of 8 tried a variety of dinners and everyone enjoyed their meal thoroughly.
There's a full wine list and a full bar. It was a great way to top off our round of golf on a great course. I would recommend this course to any golfer of any skill level.
Up North Michigan Golf at its finest!!
Put Hidden River on your Up North Golf Course bucket list!
Truly a beautiful and challenging tract
I have played this course multiple times and could play it endlessly. It’s in perfect shape and each hole is separate from the other and totally different. It’s a hidden gym like it’s name.
Rude Staff
The course is very nice, great layout, beautiful views. It was in excellent condition. The only issue was the lady behind the check-in at the pro shop. We had a 2pm tee time. Got there early, 1:20. Asked if we could tee off early. She said no. Their was a long gap with open tee times ahead of us. Went to the bag drop and the young man working that area asked our tee time. He wanted to let us off early, checked with the starter, starter said go ahead. The lady behind the desk heard the conversation. She said NO they have to wait. They ended up letting the 2:10 tee time ahead of us. we waited on for that group on every hole. Loved the course, but will not return because of the very rude lady behind the counter. Greg Gierlack
The course was women friendly and really beautiful
We played Hidden River as couples and found it to be both men and women friendly. The views on every hole were breathtaking since the trees were just turning into their Fall colors. We very much enjoyed our experience at this beautiful course and would highly recommend it to any level golfer.
Nice track
I always enjoy the course. The big problem was that the people playing in front of us were incredibly slow. It was a big group, so we could not play through. Then, as slow as they were, they could not move their carts, when it was their fault and that slowed play even further. But I clearly like and would recommend the course. The people are nice too.
Hidden gem
Beautiful setting
Great course
Great condition
Hard enough to provide good experience for low handicappers
Forgiving enough for mid--range handicappers
Hidden River
I have played in the past and the course is in good shape. Enjoyable track. Nice people. Good food in the clubhouse too.
perfect
there is nothing negative that could be said about hidden river-course design and setting was beautiful.my wife is a photographer and was joking that she was going to get the picture of that one blade of grass out of place-but we could not find one!this as after we followed 80 ladies that had played in the g.a.m. senior ladies open in the morning.hidden river is a must play
Beautiful Course as tough as you want it to be
My wife and I played this course today and it was exceptionally beautiful. The tee boxes are such you can play the course as hard as you want I played both Blue and white tees on some holes just to see and the course changed completely. My wife thoroughly enjoyed the Womens layout as well. We will come back again

Hidden Gem in Northern MI
Hidden River is truly a hidden gem of the Northern Michigan golf scene. Played this prior to a buddies trip at Boyne Highlands and left our buddies trip talking more about how solid this track was.
The first three holes are designed wonderfully to ease you into the round of golf ahead. Two straightforward (driver not necessary) par 4s and a mid length par 3 really help to get your swing in place. Once you take the drive to start #4 you are transformed to an entirely different piece of property. The land is vast, with all your next holes routed through and around a lake. These holes, have wide landing areas for tee shots and well protected and angled greens to challenge approach shots. Front nine rounds off with a lovely devlis drop style par 3 that is much difficult than it looks
The back nine then shifts into a more woooded environment on the property. Playability off the tee is still very reasonable, this is not claustrophobic golf. Biggest challenge on this course is approach shots and layups that are uphill (#7 and #16 come to mind), giving you a great sense of insecurity on hitting the correct lines. Fantastic design in that aspect
Conditions are absolutely stellar. A fantastic large grass range awaits your warmup. Clubhouse is state of the art too. Will 100% visit this course again, loved it
