Stony Creek Golf Course

About
Stony Creek is part of the Huron-Clinton Metroparks system and many locals consider it to be one of its gems. There aren't any residences near the golf course, giving it a secluded feel and providing unhindered views from the elevated tees. The course opened in 1976 but underwent a major renovation that included re-sculpting the bunkers and reconditioning the entire golf course. The layout features several doglegs and a surprising amount of elevation changes. The fairways are tightly lined with trees and bunkers are strategically placed along the greensides and landing zones. There are also lakes and ponds that come into play on six holes on the front nine and three on the back. Stony Creek's par-3 17th is the most memorable water hole and the 14th is also notable for its tiny "postage stamp" green.

Poor management
I brought a client out for a round and we had an awful time. The course looked great but the tee times were very mismanaged. There was a wait on tee times from frost, but the rangers just sent everyone out one after the other as soon as it cleared. We waited on every hole for more than 20 minutes all day until we finally just left the golf course on the 11th hole. I was very disappointed in the management on how they failed to get everyone out correctly and also to manage place of play. I expected more from this golf course.
Beautiful Day To Play
Great day to golf. Great course with many challenges. Fall golf in Michigan means leaves. The only downside was finding balls off the fairways in the leaves and some greens with leaves.
Decent course but abused and overrun with leaves
This course is usually very nice but once the fall hits golfers get sloppy and trash the course and leaves are hard to content with trying to find your ball. Had to wait over 45 minutes sure to frost so bear if golfing in the morning after frost.
Stoney Creek
Second time coming out here, was a nice layout with challenge and greens were nice. Will be back soon.
Driving range was closed do to climate change
$10 to enter the park $30 to
Play which would be fine if the greens were putable they were aerated I get it
If your a golf course be a golf course there were no 200/150/100 post that’s there to help pace of play you know this but don’t do it embarrassing on your part things aren’t being done right these days what are we goi g to do about it seem simple enough
Love the back 9 drive 16 from the back box no cut took it right over the top of those trees @age 58 that was a rush oh & I caught a bass 🫠my slow play equalizer
Fun layout
Course was fun and in pretty good shape...Pace of play was very good.
Enjoyable round
We played on Saturday morning and pace of play was good even though they were pretty busy...4 hours for 18holes.
Course layout was nice and the course was in decent shape. Rough was long but that makes it more of a challenge.
They've redone the clubhouse since I played last and it is clean and well laid out. Didnt eat any food so cant comment on that...
6 hour rounds
if you like playing very long rounds, this is the place for you. 9 holes took 3 hours, left at the turn
waited on every shot and every T box.
dont play on the weekends
Visit back to Michigan
During my visit back home to Michigan I played Stoney Creek GC as it had been years since I last played it. Personnel was friendly and the course was in very good shape. The price was right however; I was a bit surprised when I arrived at the entrance of the park and had to pay $10 to enter although I had a tee time and had no intention of using the park other than golf. I did not remember this in the past and felt that I should not have to pay an additional fee to play there. It was still worth the price, this is just a head’s up.
Pace and Tee boxes
While the course and greens were great, the tee boxes were really beat up and finding a level/flat spot to put the tee and have my feet on the same plane was challenging.
Additionally, the pace of play was slow. The ranger did nothing to keep it moving. The group in front us ended up combining with the group in front of them and it really slowed things down
Stoney
Course was great and always a challenge. In great shape except the bunkers were very hard packed and need to have sand added
