Great golf course
Lots of woods so if you don't hit a straight ball, good luck! Snack bar never seems to be open but there are a few snacks and drinks to buy. Have golfed here several times and will continue to do so.
Poor customer service
They over scheduled for the course and made golf now customers wait. The cart did not have enough power to finish the course. I called for a new cart and was told "if you want a new cart come back and get one!" They did finally bring us one after I refused to give up our spot. Had to wait at every hole to tee off. A lot of deer flies on course too. Just not a fun experience
Poor condition
Every single green had dead spots. Some spots had sand thrown on them, others were just bare dirt. Too many blind tee/green shots. Weedy fairways and tee boxes. A disappointing experience even at $20.
enjoyable day
Four of us golfed The Rose for the first time. It was challenging and enjoyable at the same time. Would recommend to friends. Reminded us of Brigadoon which has recently closed.
Rose
Have played the course occasionally over the last 25 years.... enjoy the layout and the challenge of carry and narrow fairways. The staff was very friendly and helpful, even if very sparse.
I was very shocked to see the condition of the course had declined so much since last time I had played. Fairways appeared to not be watered much, and many dandelions everywhere.... Greens were very slow and rough..... with spots on some of the greens grown over and or bare.
A favored track
We have played the Rose several times and as some reviewers have noted they have struggled a little with the maintenance (tee boxes and some issues on greens) but overall the conditions are pretty good. The layout is fun especially to those of us from the southern part of the state that like to see the northern hills and elevation. Lots of elevation changes tee to green. Some challenging fairways to hit so some accuracy is needed. Not punishing, just challenging. Great value!
tough course
This course was not maintained very well. The tee boxes needed mowing and the greens were slow and bumpy. There were no sand traps on the course but it was still a tough course with some forced carries and tight fairways. It had some very nice elevated tees on the par 3's. It just needs some TLC .
-Tee boxes were not well maintained
The tee boxes here not mowed evenly and had grass clumps and sometimes just sand to hit from.
The ground on the tee boxes was so hard I struggled to get my tee into the ground.
In general... The course fairways and greens were ok though.
The staff was friendly and accommodating. Bathrooms on the course where clean.
This course is pretty narrow and could use some tree and branch trimming.
Carts had no windshield's but it was a very hot day so that was ok.
this course is way out in the sticks and signage up the road from the main entrance could use some enlarging and trimming around.
I would go back to play if the price was right, but could not really recommend to a friend.
The Rose Golf course
The course is appealing being cut out of the woods with some elevation changes, unfortunately they are struggling as most courses are. The greens ran well but there was numerous bad spots in them. The fairways were average but the rough was filled with many weeds and clover. The fairways are tight so if you are an average golfer or worse bring a lot of balls. The pace of play was terrible. Gal in club house was very friendly.
Course is in good condition
Cut out of the woods , great views, greens in fair condition this year, staff is friendly. Challenging on quite a few holes.
Great layout ~ but no USGA ratings?
Great time and great value. Amazing layout, no homes, through the Michigan forest, each home is its own landscape.
I'm a 69 YO, 22 handicap, golfer and play 3-4 times a week. Played with buddies. Lost balls in well placed water holes, but a beautiful layout.
There is no flat lie on this course, or so it seemed. Will play it again. For a bogey-wannabe golfer, I think the slope here is under valued, and they need to add forward tees for seniors men.
My only beef is that when I went to post my score for handicap, GAM has no current course rating.
MUCH BETTER THAN EXPECTED
Great value better than expected on way back from shanty creek better than summit course up there not as nice as cedar river course or legend but very nice
tough course
the rose is a really good golf course but it has a lot of narrow fairways , bring extra golf balls. The course is very hilly. Overall the corse is very challenging but fun to play. I really look forward to playing it again.
great course
The Rose is just that... great course, enjoyed it very much, better hit it straight and you will be rewarded with good lies and approaches to these postage stamp greens. fun track, cant wait to play it again...
Beautiful rolling hills
I haven't played The Rose in about 10yrs. I need to get there more often. Very pretty course with lots of rolling hills. Cut out through the woods but not too narrow. Lots of pine lined holes. A shorter course but still challenging. I really enjoyed my round.
Hidden gem
We've played the Rose a couple times a year as a group since it opened.
We return every fall for the challenge and beautiful views offered on every hole.
The standard rates are reasonable, it was a treat playing at the GolfNow rate.
The course has beautiful scenery
New owners....great people.....their hoping to improve quality of course. Looking forward to playing it again. It was a beautiful day on a beautiful course.
great fall day
Caught fish at nearby rose lake in the a.m., and played 18 in the afternoon. I only play 2-3 rds. of golf a year. I really enjoyed this course.
Nice Course, Definitely a Hidden Gem
Add this to the list of courses to play in the Cadillac/Big Rapids area. Nicely cut out of hardwoods, and the holes are not on top of each other, so it's a very peaceful round. Not super long, very few (if any) bunkers on the course - its challenge is its tree lined holes and rolling hills. Greens were very nice as well, rolled great, very receptive to approach shots. Pro shop staff was very nice as well.
The Rose is a Gem
My husband and I have enjoyed this course many times over the years. It is absolutely great and I highly recommend it to both "serious" golfers and those of us who play it for the fun no matter how much trouble we get into!! (Bring extra golf balls, you may need them!!)
