The Star in the East "Eagle Valley Golf Course"
I have played Eagle Valley since it opened 1998 and it is aging like a fine wine! In 2024 I played it 184 times and each one was a new adventure!
You will be welcomed and treated as an old friend and member your first time and every time! Superintendent Joe Otto has the course in great shape. The sand bunkers have been rebuilt and fresh sand refilled. The greens are rolled regularly and putt fast and true! The course still has mature marker trees "just aim for the tallest tree off the tee box"!
The par 35 front has a starting hole par 5 that requires precision to stay out of sand and water but can be birdied. Hole two is down hill beauty! Hole three is a dog leg left between sand and water and a kidney bean elevated green that unloads right. Hole four is the number one handicap requiring a long drive and a precise shot into a narrow green. Hole five is a blind uphill par three surrounded by five traps! Hole 6 has water and trees and elevated green that unloads left. Hole 7 par 3 requires threading a tee shot between water and sand onto a breaking green. Hole 8 is a carry over water between woods and precisely out of two bunkers into an elevated blind green. Hole 9 features woods traps and "Death Valley" if you come up short on your approach!
The backside is par 37 with three challenging par fives and two tricky par 3. The backside is my favorite and one that offers great golf!
Any age young or small can enjoy the course with five tee boxes and a great practice area to pitch, putt and drive!
Nice layout
Greens were fast, fairways very nice. This is a fun course to play. Challenging on a few holes, but well worth the money.
Local track
Great looking track. The greens are in amazing condition. Great fairways just a great local course that must be played.
Beautiful Day of Golf
This course has a very nice putting and chipping area. My husband and I were paired with 2 other men who had played the course before which was very helpful. The course is well layed out and well maintained and has some challenging holes. The ranger did tell us on the turn that we needed to keep up with the group in front of us, but she did so politely. We stopped in the bar after play and they have a 2 for one beer deal for any golfer. The bartender was very nice and gave us suggestions for dinner. With a receipt from the course, we also got a 2 for 1 drink at Lakewood tavern and great food. Highly recommend.
Beautiful
One of the most beautiful golf courses I've played, and with very interesting picturesque layouts of each hole. Pleasantly impressed!
Eagle Valley in Woodbury
Nice course, fun, great conation and very nice staff.
Great Course … Staff Needs Improvement
Course remains in great condition, plays true throughout. Pace of play no issue at all, one of the best public courses in the metro. Course offers challenging holes yet offers scoring opportunities.
Customer service in the Pro Shop (PS) needs to be addressed. With each visit, the PS staff has negatively impacted the experience. Fortunately, the course keeps getting better.
Simply said, the PS staff is rude. Not saying all members are, but in general the environment is not welcoming.
It’s to the point where a player doesn’t want to enter the PS, making visits prompt and to the point. Unfortunate, because EV doesn’t have nice attire and acc. available for sale.
Im not one to leave criticism without cause. EV is a great course, I want to see it at its best. An example of recent interaction.
Asked for individual cart, knowing there were already two carts assigned out to the group. Completely understand wanting to keep groups to 2 carts for capacity and cost reasons.
With that said, we just have COVID rules where 4 carts were allowed. Again, I understand only assigning 2 carts.
I like my own cart, so I wanted to at least ask. The worst the staff could say is “no”. Well, the staff proved me wrong.
The immediate response was “no” and they citied course rules. However, I then shared my preference was an individual cart as I paid for it and it made me more comfortable.
The PS staff responded “we can just refund you and cancel you fee time” The staff reiterated this 2 more times…. It was an uncomfortable scenario.
An appropriate response could have been “we understand your request, course rules are “x”, we apologize we cannot meet your needs today. We notice you’ve been playing here multiple times this summer, What can we do to help?”
This show compassion and opportunity for the customer to feel as if they have a voice. Maybe they ask to cancel the rd, some people do have legitimate reasoning for an individual cart.. or maybe, like myself, would have said “thank you for your understanding and offering me the chance to remedy. I’ll share a cart today”
I go into detail here because the course is fantastic. One of the best public courses in the metro. Recurring business requires a partnership, which requires trust. The staff has shown they do not value and individual customer, more concerned with keeping the schedule at capacity. No product will make up for poor customer services.
I will continue to play at EV, and hope to see improvement in staff service. As a customer, I simply ask to be treated as if I matter. Not just another number on the schedule.
Other than a few PS staff members, the experience is fantastic. The bar staff has great customer service, it’s fun to visit before a rd and mid turn. They’re a great example to follow.
Thank you
Eagle Valley was great
Everything was great. The only thing I would work on is the tee boxes. There were a few too many that were on slants.
Different Challenge
I had only enough time to get out to play a round. The course was set up nicely and the shots were different than most course of a similar caliber. I had fun and expect to add this one to my list for a consistent play.
