Fun course but greens fees way too high
This is a former private club that allows public tee times. It has all the amenities you would expect with a very friendly staff.
The golf course has an interesting layout and no two holes are similar. The conditions were decent but not worth the $105 greens fee.
I would definitely play again if the rates were lower.
Worth the Play, for sure
I took the Golf Advisor recommendation and played this course. I liked it enough to play 36. The course was pretty challenging but fair. I used a Titleist set of rentals and shot my handicap of 6 so not bad. Fairways were narrow and the rough was fairly long. Being from Florida we don't play in that type of grass so that was a bit different. A lot of elevation changes, dog legs, and unreachable par 5's for me. Course was in Excellent condition even after quite a bit of rain in the area the last few days. I would recommend it to anyone and would play it again, given the time and my clubs :)
Challenging & Excellent Presentation
What a tricky and challenging course. Very tight fairways with thick rough and well protected greens, make for some tough 2nd shots.
I played off the "blue markers" which was more like black (or the back markers). Some great elevated tees on the back 9 and some greens were super slick. Guys at the clubhouse were great.
Some feedback for the course - no water around so a food cart would be good, pin placements on ridges make it super tough and confusion of the par 4/5 holes where they can be played as either (so which is it?).
Really tough but thoroughly enjoyable.
Great Example of Semi-Private Gem Keeping Its Country Club Conditions
I think this course is a great example of a formerly all private country club that opened up to some public play, and keeping the country club course conditions as it was pristine from tee to green. some tee boxes roughed up but overall great shape. Friendly pro shop guys provided some tips. some blind tee shots but you can figure out where to aim most of the time even if not having played it before. I like the front 9 had 3 par 3 and 3 par 5s if I remember correctly. Close proximity to Philly airport, just over WW bridge - caught my flight 20 minutes drive. Will definitely play here again given the chance. Good workout but walkable, was near 100 degrees heat index so probably not wise.
William Flynn Classic
Long rough, narrow fairways and well bunkered greens. The course favors right handed golfer hitting a draw. Not sure about allowing walking 5somes to play during prime time weekend.
The best around
Woodcrest is one of the finest facilities in the area and it is also among the hardest golf courses you will ever play. There is not a single "easy" hole on the course, as even few shorter par 4's have sharp doglegs, OB, false fronts, etc. The bunkering is nothing less than diabolical and if you can't play, just stay away. You will not have fun. I don't write that to be mean, you just won't, and you'll pay a premium for the privilege.
For the rest of you, treat yourself. It is open to the public a little longer, but memberships are up and scoring tee times is getting harder. I do not expect this to be open to public play much more, at least no on weekends, where times are already very restricted.
The course itself is a William Flynn gem featuring narrow fairways, high rough, small-to-medium sized undulating greens, loads of elevation change, and some of the toughest bunkers anywhere. Visually, when in season, it is simply stunning. Most holes require a carry somewhere, especially on the back, which ranks among the best 9 holes you will ever see.
The front starts with a very tough par 4 over a small valley, before doglegging left over a stream to a narrow, elevated green with a severe slope and false front. It is a microcosm of whats to come (carries, sloping greens, elevation changes, and dogleg lefts!) As far as local opening holes go, it is neck and neck with Medford Village. The other 8 contains 3 par 3's and all are excellent, as is the amazing par 5 4th.
The back is where the fun is, but the highlights are easily 12 to 14 and 16 to 18. The 12th is arguably the toughest par 4 (non PV) in So Jersey, rivaling #14 at Tavistock. The 14th is as picturesque a drive as you get, as you sit high and survey the course. The closing hole is a long par 5 that demand 3 well executed shots to have a chance at birdie. Few par 5's offer so little leeway as 18 at WCC. It is the last of 6 hard dogleg lefts and if you leak it right off the tee, the hole gets even longer and bogey is almost a certainty.
All in all, it favors players who draw the ball and have good touch around greens. You need to be a ball striker to score, as you can't scum it around and fake it. You earn what you get here. Good luck.
5 stars
course was in perfect shape... Ran late for tee time and stff were extremely nice about accomidating me...5 stars all around
One of best
Had heard about how nice of a course it was. I was not disappointed. The course conditions were perfect. The layout was very challenging.
Early Srping Play
Early in the season course was great for having souch a long hard winter.
We paid $65 so it well worth it. This course is a bit over priced during peak season.
Great Course
Went out as a solo. Greens were good, fairways excellent. Had no problems getting around the course. Will return whenever possible.
Woodcrest Golf Course
The course was in great shape for this time of year. We played very quickly no waiting at holes. We had s great time would like to play again soon.
Perfection
from beginning to end, this course is amazing. There are no complaints about this course.
Beautiful golf course
First time playing Woodcrest. Beautiful course. Challenging. Accuracy over distance. Course was in great shape. Firm, fast greens. Would play it again.
One drawback is you cannot buy alcohol unless a member or with a member.
Country Club golf
Semi private club. Social memberships available. Well maintained, and very challenging. It beat me up, but I would certainly play it again.
The best in te area
I have played Woodcrest all summer and it's always played great, yesterday was no exception. The course did play tougher than anytime yet this year and the greens had to have been rolling to a 13 plus
the best greens I've played in a long time
what a great day of golfI've passed this course many many times and had no idea this golf course was so close to my house..it's expensive but if you want A difficult beautiful golf course this is for you. the greens were lightning fast and smooth as a baby's bottom! no cart girl on the course is the only bad thing I could say about it!
GREAT CHALLENGING COURSE
Great course it was in great shape super fast greens lots of bunkers. Need to play few times before shooting a good score. Will definetlly play again.
Excellent course fast greens
First time i played the course and I really enjoyed it and as a result would like to return. Course rate is rather expensive but had a good golfnow discount. Greens were lightening fast and I cannot wait to play here again now that I know the layout of the course.
