Great Gorge Golf Club - Rail/Lake Course

About
Great Gorge Golf Club is situated on 500 acres of naturally preserved land, nestled in the Vernon Valley between the Wawayanda and Pochuck Mountain Peaks. Designed by George Fazio in 1970 on behalf of Hugh Hefner for his Great Gorge Playboy Club, the course boasts 3 championship nines: Rail, Lake and Quarry. With four tee box options, the course is manageable for newer golfers yet challenging for lower handicap players, making Great Gorge an ideal venue for all golfers.

The Greens will drive you nuts
the overall conditions are very good. The Greens are not your friend. Very very fast and for some reason the flag is placed so if you missed your putt the ball will keep on rolling. most rolled to the other side of the green.
40 mph wind but still ope
Was hoping closer to the time we tee off that the rates instead of rising would’ve lowered. At the rate we were charge it was not in any way enjoyable as we rushed our play because of the high winds/gust
Choose another one
I’ve played this course one too many times and my guys said let’s play for Easter Sunday. Should’ve chose another course.
Typical windy day. As usual in Vernon.
Course is in standard condition for April. I decided to leave this for all those golfer that need clubs.
I left my clubs in another city because I am returning - shocker I called and asked do you rent clubs. Pro shop said yeah. How much, 25.00 that’s kind of cheap but I said whatever didn’t have so let’s do it.
Arrived to check in, guy says clubs are over there, but keep in mind there not anything special. I walk over, bunch of old clubs. Guy says yeah we just use clubs people leave behind… AND YOUR CHARGING people… I play 8 hopes and decides to leave, embarrassing to pay 100.00 and get rented clubs that are 20 years old, dirty at that.
Indigent like this course for a few other reasons and now I doubt I’ll be back to Vernon playing Great Gorge. Good luck to anyone renting clubs and if the staff reads this. Try and assemble some decent clubs before charging anyone.
Accomidating staff
Something happened with golf now app and the course, I had a 12:10 tee time and when I showed up they did not have my reservation at all. I showed them my confirmation number and they fit in our group 4 when they were already overbooked. Very happy with the course and thankful the hour and a half drive wasn't wasted.
Golf Now booking 0-10 SCAM!
Hello my name is Michael, I booked this course through golfnow app, canceled 2/4 of my places on the reservation 24+ hours prior to reservation and still haven’t received a credit over 7 business days later. Golf now customer support is 0/10 rating. They have no customer support email nor phone number which is readily available for their customers. Golf now if you see this review kindly reach out to my email address of account to credit my money back. At this point I feel like this app is a scam and will never book through them again. Great gorge golf course however is beautiful. Love it there.
Great Course
Some like to take their sweet time knowing there are others behind them. Almost killed the mood when the guy waited at the next hole to ask for courtesy while he’s taking 15 putts on the green and 17 swings to get to the green itself. Some people don’t have a brain therefore depending who you’re behind determines your day. Other than that, beautiful course and staff is friendly except one that clearly does not want to work there.
Great Course, Terrible Sunday Round
Let me start off by saying, the staff for starters and the pro shop were FABULOUS, great character of those hired. Course is beautiful, amazing views!
But the round was absolutely intolerable from a waiting standpoint. There were 4 groups hitting off hole 16, I know because I ended up driving past them as I needed to finish the round early. The group I was behind REFUSED to hit a ball until the group in front of them were completely finished on the whole. I’m talking 450+ yards away a too, wouldn’t tee off.
It’s Sunday and Rangers are a MUST on weekends. No excuse to get that backed up or have people incompetent of how to keep pace moving. But like I said, if you have all the time in the world, this is a fabulous place to play.
First time, will be going all season.
Great open course, good challenge for mid game. I would recommend this course to family and friends without a doubt. Can’t wait for warmer weather
Always great time in Great gorge.
I enjoyed playing here, and they always keep it in great condition.
GG Golf
Played the course many years ago in its gay day. Unbelievable views, glad to see it being revitalized -
Cart paths need some work. but I’m sure it’s coming.
I have played it several times this fall and I’m a Li w as us challenged by this course.
