About
Sunset Valley Golf Course is consistently ranked as one of the best public courses in New Jersey. It is one of four golf courses in the Morris County Parks system and it's considered the toughest. Located in Pompton Plains, the course is nestled in a wooded valley. It has a dramatic topography that provides plenty of ups and downs throughout the golf course. Golfers can expect a variety of elevation changes as well as a few blind shots and forced carries. Strategically placed bunkers come into play along the fast, undulating greens and mature trees line the rolling fairways. Water hazards come into play on a few holes too. Sunset Valley Golf Course's final three holes present one of the area's toughest finishes. The trio begins with the uphill par-5 16th and then finishes with two long par 4s.

Greens are ridiculous
Greens are unfair. With the slope balla would stop by the hole and roll back past you and sometimes off greeen altogether
Price discrepancy
Be careful - according to golf course, golf now is messing up the price for tee times and they say they are in a fight with golf now. Instead of $47 for one round it turned out to be $68 for round plus gas cart it was $83. Bit of a difference and a jolt. Pace was slow probably because of 30 minute frost delay. Course is beautiful otherwise.
Today, 3/16, I went to Sunset Valley Golf Course for the tee time at 1:20 pm because GolfNow confirmed this golf course with $47.00 per player for 18 holes.
But this course cashier charged $55.00 per player for 18 holes.
They told $47.00 is for just 9 holes.
I am absurd.
I showed them the confirmed GolfNow's email.
They don't care. They said GolfNow is wrong.
What can I do at this time???
I am very uncomfortable.
How can I keep using GolfNow ??
Please let me know.
December golf
Course has temporary greens by using a few fairways and temporary tees on the par 3's, making the course yardage much shorter than usual. Just happy to be playing this time of year. Easy to get out, staff very accomodating.
CONSIDERING THE TIME OF THE SEASON......
Course conditions are average (no rakes at the) bunkers, tee boxes, greens, etc. Beware both the fairways/slopes and greens especially......(always) very fast!
Good variety of hole layouts and nice environment/nice views.
Be careful around young fellas hitting up behind you and not showing golf etiquette.
Fast
With the extreme drought in the area the greens were extremely fast ball rolled off several times but still had a great time.
Nice November round
Got extremely lucky to show up early for a 7:40am tee time and got out at 7:20 as a single. Saw a single go out 10 min before me but never caught up to him. Played the entire 18 with no one in front or behind me. Course was in great shape. As usual, greens were very fast, almost too fast. Impressed at how green the course is considering the drought we got going. Overall it was a nice November round without the frost delay!
Best in the area
Sunset is the best course in the area. It’s a bit pricey, but I’d probably get the county card next year, which would make things a bit cheaper. This is not a hack and slasher. Some unique holes and razor sharp greens. Overall, a great golf experience.
Great Challenging County Course
No walk in the park. Fun course that rewards shot makers. Greens played fast but true.
Unfriendly staff
This is my second time playing this course and both times the starters have been extremely rude. I have been treated poorly each time for no reason.
