Greens
Fairway were a little spotting but just coming out of winter. Greens were just aireated so little bumpy.
Golf course Abuse.
Potentially the best course in NM. Please take better care of course.
Very Fun 5 Round Outing With Friends
This was our 3rd year traveling from Southern AZ to Sierra Del Rio to play golf during our overseed season. Always a fun time, great staff, and great club house. The greens were great and fairways a work in progress. New owners and course superintendent hopefully will get it back to it's prior glory!! Still, a great track. We truly enjoyed our outing and will be back! Camped in our RVs at Elephant Butte State Park which is alway top notch and inexpensive!
Course Conditions
The course needs lots of work. Tee boxes were OK, fairways seemed to be riddled with diseases and the sand traps had no sand.
Sierra del Rio GC
Early in the season so the overall conditions were only average, greens very fast and smooth. Typical desert golf course layout, if you stray a little off course you are in the junk. Fairways a few were wide but majority were semi tight. Had marshal talk to the guys I was playing with and told them we were two holes behind? We teed off about a half hour after the group in front of us, we caught them on the last hole and played in under 4 hours, had a chuckle at the time since group behind us were at least a hole behind us, never saw them. Good test if your in the area.
One of the best!
The course is a hidden gem, meal options are only gripes. It's limitations impact the experience, however, it is understood with new issues our world faces. I enjoy the staff and fair rates, coming back for sure.
OK course
I would not go out of my way to play this course as it is such a long way away from the major cities. If you happen to be in the area and get a good rate it is a palatable option. From beginning to end analysis. Check in was easy and friendly and helpful staff. Driving range poorly kept. Tee areas OK. Playable with adequate different boxes for every level. Fairways tight and dried out. Area around green just enough consistent grass to be able to chip. Barely. Greens fast and true with a few dead spots here and there.
Unique layout
A real gem of a course. Beautifully laid out hugging the contours of the terrain. A fun challenging course for the average golfer.
Nice spot
Weather was outrageous, but it’s such a neat course, made up for the unpredictable NM weather. For this time of year the course was adequately maintained, some rough spots. Overall enjoyed the round. Lunch was great too.
Fun and challenging course.
Staff were very friendly and helpful
Hidden Gem
I drove about 2 hours to this course. It was recommended from a friend. Well worth the trip. Stay on the fairways and you be be rewarded. A good balance of tough holes, and easy approach holes. I will definitely return.
Recommended, but
Excellent layout with memorable holes (#s 3, 10, 14,, 15, and 16 come to mind). Tee boxes and fairways were super; greens were slow and bumpy (they had just been punched). However, sand traps were a disaster. If you are not going to maintain them, get rid of them!
Nice course
Good layout with concrete cart paths and clearly marked tee boxes, great desert view on several holes and I happened to play well today so really enjoyed it. I recommend it!
