Ironhorse Golf Club
Played On 07/30/2015The course is challenging but much fun
This was a fun but challenging course for me. Lots of streams, bunkers, hills, and trees; very pretty and well maintained. Accuracy and course management both important. Tee boxes were being aerated. Some new concrete work was in progress on the smooth cart paths. Fairways, greens, and bunkers were all in fine shape. I saw some rough and/or bare spots on the fringes around some greens, but nothing too bad. The GPS on the carts was generally helpful, but not always. I hope to play again...definitely!
Crescent Farms Golf Course
Played On 09/24/2014Accuracy is essential here.
The course has many bunkers, water hazards, doglegs, and tree-lined, tight fairways; so accuracy is a must. The course was in better-than-good condition overall. The tees were in excellent condition. The greens were in near-excellent condition, except for a few thin spots. The bunkers were well raked. The fairways were in good condition.
Fairfield Golf Club
Played On 09/19/2014Short but challenging course.
The course is less than 6000 yds. long from the tips, but the usually narrow fairways, many doglegs, deep rough, and several water hazards make accuracy a must. The greens and tee boxes were in excellent shape. The fairways were in good or better shape. The cart path on the 2nd nine is only gravel and very uneven and rough.
Acorns Golf Links
Played On 7/26/2013A scenic, rural "thinker's" course with many water hazards, deep rough, and many fairway and green-side bunkers
My first time at Acorns was both challenging and rewarding, despite the drizzly weather. The tees were pristine. The fairways were in good shape. The numerous fairway and green-side bunkers were well maintained. The greens had been recently aerated, and a few had some bare spots. However, on the whole, the greens were in fair to good to great shape, and putting was a challenge due to their slants and dips. With the many water hazards, the tall and unforgiving rough, the "tight" out-of-bounds (in several places), and the several elevation changes, I really had to think about how to play each hole. The concrete cart path was in good shape for the most part. The clubhouse was clean and neat, and the snack bar seemed well stocked and inexpensive. The driving range was adequate. A larger practice green is needed and/or a separate chipping green. The rural ambience was pleasant, but it was at least a 45min. drive from St. Louis City.
Far Oaks Golf Club
Played On 7/4/2013A fun course for a hacker like me. Wide fairways but deep rough. Convenient.
Had a fun time as a threesome on a slow round on the 4th of July, a busy day at the course. Well maintained and managed. The tees, fairways, and greens were in great shape. Has both links type holes and tree-lined fairways on other holes. The rough is very deep. Keep the ball in the wide fairways. The clubhouse was clean and comfortable, but the bar maid was slow and needed help for the number of customers. Convenient to St. Louis City and County.
Aberdeen Golf Club
Played On 6/21/2013Great course. Good value. Tees and fairways in great shape. Greens show lack of divot repair.
I enjoy playing this course and it's always a challenge for a hacker like me. The water, the unforgiving rough, the well placed bunkers, and the undulating greens test every facet of one's game. The tees and fairways are in great shape. The greens need more attention to divot repair. The golf cart did not come with sand for divot repairs nor with a ball and club wash box. The men's room in the club house was not clean or dry. Although not overly convenient to St. Louis City, the course remains one of my favorites and I think it is a good value when you can get a reduced price.
Stonewolf Golf Club
Played On 6/18/2013Great value. Course in great shape, although fairways were soggy in spots due to 4" of rain the day before. Easy access from St. Louis.
Had a great time for my first outing here. Play in my foursome was slow due to "cart path only" rule due to wet grounds and lost balls. Accuracy a must. Some holes are hilly, and some are flat. Water and thick rough or woods and in-close out-of-bounds can be problems for a hacker like me.Scenic. Deer abound. Easy access from west of the Miss. River.
Gateway National Golf Links
Played On 11/19/2012Well maintained. Convenient. Challenging. Friendly staff.
Links style, well maintained course very convenient to downtown St. Louis, despite interstate highway construction. Tees and green are in great shape. Several of the fairways were newly aerated and/or had many unrepaired divots. Otherwise the course was fun to play...and challenging
