Royal St. Augustine Golf and Country Club
Played On 04/05/2025Not Worth the Reduced Green Fee
There were no greens, that were remotely playable. There were several tee boxes, where it was just sand.
Go elsewhere, until they can get it together...
Hidden Hills Golf Course
Played On 02/04/2025Need to seed the tee boxes
Played badly but enjoyed most of the course. Some of the tee boxes were in poor shape.

Played On 08/22/2020Walked off after 9.
The course was in horrible condition, with greens that were barely alive. In addition, the course was so slow, I was fed up after 9 holes. Spend a little more, and go elsewhere. This is not worth your time.
Dogwood/Oak Tree at Middle Island Country Club
Played On 07/26/2020Not Worth $86
To be honest, I played Middle Island because I was unable to secure an early tee-time at any of the courses in my normal rotation for Saturday and Sunday mornings. I was surprised to see that the cost for the round was $86. Initially, I thought to myself "Well, there must be a good reason the cost is so high".
I played The Spruce and Dogwood nines. Neither of then were tremendous shape. On the Spruce nine, I could recall that holes #6 and 8 were the ones that jumped out at me. Unfortunately, I don't recall any of the holes on the Dogwood nine. If I am going to pay $86, my hope is that I will find more than two holes to stickout. The only memory I took with me today, was the threesome of a father and his two sons I was paired with. A nice group of guys. I hope I have the chance of playing with them again. I'm sorry I do not have the same hope of laying the course.
To summarize - You can find many more quality courses for less money. Save yourself a trip.
Stonebridge Golf Links & Country Club
Played On 05/21/2019Great Day for Bad Golf
The course was fine. Some hard holes, but also some holes that let you back in. For some reason, I always feel like I'm playing a Florida course - with the housing around many of the holes.
Lido Golf Club
Played On 07/05/2016Very Soggy - But Very Affordable
I paid $15 to ride 18 in a cart. A total steal! This was likely due to the fact that the course drains very poorly, and the fairways were loaded with puddles. It is a great course, but I wish they took better care of it.
Cherry Creek - The Woods Course
Played On 08/16/2015Nice Course. Nothing memorable though
No particular hole on this course stood out for me, but it was an enjoyable round to be sure. The course was in very good condition, and the staff was very accomodating. I do enjoy playing the Par 73 Links Course that is across the street much more.
Swan Lake Golf Club
Played On 07/28/2014A Fun Course to Play...
The first thing that comes to mind about Swan Lake is the HUGE greens that they have. If you are one, who has difficulty with lag-putting, you have another great opportunity to get better here. Overall, Swan Lake, from the white tees, is a beautiful and not too difficult course that offers a combination of hazards - both wet and dry - to defend par. The sand in the traps is of good quality - without too many rocks or pebbles. Most of water hazards are on the front. So pay more attention to shot accuracy on the front. There are good scores to be had on the four Par 5's. As for the four Par 3's, you stand a pretty good chance of making an ace on the short 16th hole. Alot of fun.
Montauk Downs State Park
Played On 07/13/2014Worth the Drive...
If you happen to be on Long Island, and want to play golf on an a really good course, don't eliminate Montauk because of the distance. Bar none - you will be in for a treat when you play Montauk. Much like the Bethpage Complex, this is run by the State of NY. It is kept in immaculate condition, despite the high amount of Summer rounds it sees. It is hard for me to pick a favorite hole. The whole experience is just awesome. Take the drive and play it for yourself. You can't be disappointed.
Crab Meadow Golf Course
Played On 07/12/2014A Great Muni Course
Crab Meadow is a great golf value. If you are a resident, you can play 18 - while walking on a weekend for $36. It has some very good holes with amazing views of the Long Island Sound. The front 9 plays easier than the back. The greens could be a little faster. Of the Par 5's - # 14 is the hardest. My favorite Par 3 is #16. My favorite Par 4 is #15.
Tallgrass Country Club
Played On 07/09/2014A Replica of Scottish Links
Playing Tallgrass is like playing the links of Scotland - only on Long Island.
Tallgrass offers golfers the unique opportunity of playing a Scottish "links" golf course on Long Island.
It is a bit of ride on the LIE to play it, but you won't be disappointed.
Blue at Bethpage State Park Golf Course
Played On 06/22/2014Least Favorite of the "Bethpage 5"
For some reason, I have never really been impressed by Blue. In fact, if given the choice, I would play any of the Bethpage Courses - over and over - except the Blue. The front is very difficult - almost equal to The Black in terms of its challenges. The back is quite easy - not that I am inclined to shoot a 36 on the back mind you.
Despite what I have written, the Blue does hold an amazing golf memory for me. On #13 - in '96 or '97, I holed out my 7-iron from the fairway for an eagle 2 - my first.
That being said - The Blue is still a fantastic golf experience. You should ignore my review and play it for yourself.
