About
I love the game. The game doesn't always love me, but I don't expect it to be my bread of life. Although I belong to a club, I do love to travel and explore other courses. To date (May '23), I have played 300+ courses, including few iconic courses such as Pebble, Torrey Pine, Chambers Bay... I will share my experience of various courses I've played and hope this assessment is helpful to others thinking about traveling to these spots. Likewise, I hope you will share your experience as well. Fellow golfers helping each other out.

Southern Highlands Golf Course
Played On 12/05/2023Thank you SNGA
Played SNGA social event. I've been wanting to play this course ever since moving to Vegas so this was the golden ticket. And boy am I glad I played.
I've walked Shadow Creek as a volunteer for the LPGA Match Play and found that course to be exquisite. Not a spec of weed anywhere. Well, Southern Highland was just like Shadow Creek in it's perfection. This course was very lush and very well maintained.
The course was a bit challenging, but having a caddy really helped to navigate the course. While playing, I sort of lost track as the lush landscaping made me forget that I was in Vegas.
Truly amazing experience. Hope I get another shot at this course - soon.

Played On 10/25/2023Typical round in S Korea
As most golf courses are in S Korea, this course was without an exception. Built on a side of a mountain, the course provides plenty of elevation change and blind tee shots. Typical S Korea golf is not really designed around game quality, but more for experience. The caddy's job, while entertaining and helpful, but mostly to keep you on your pace. I think the lesson here is to enjoy the round, but don't expect a quality round due to tricky golf course layout and caddy rushing shots. I would recommend either fall or spring golf as the flora and fauna can be quite attractive.

Played On 10/16/2023Vacation golf
We played two rounds here with a tour group from US.
I find the course to be beautiful, but not really a player course. As typical S Korean golf course, this course is without an exception of having its share of elevation changes and undulating greens. Some of the holes are quite spectacular with ocean adjacent to the holes so you'll be tempted to have your camera within reach.
As for golf, avoid trying to shape shots. Just hit yardage and play conservatively to avoid blind trouble lurking in almost every hole.
The caddies are there to clean your clubs and balls, but don't trust their reads. My caddie was excessively chatty to the point of being annoying.
I also found the staff to be mild mannered, but certainly not friendly. And the prices there are extreme (cup of coffee for $15???). Just be aware.

Played the course after renovation (water reduction work). Found the course to be exceptionally maintained and decorated. The layout wasn't spectacular, but still had some very interesting and challenging holes. As some of the nearby courses (Revere, Rio Secco, Dragon Ridge), the views of the strip highlighted few of the holes. One of my pet peeve is a tee box that isn't maintained. But I found the tee boxes here to be nearly perfect. No weeds, actually flat and very well maintained. A great course. Would love another shot at this course some day soon.
Las Vegas National Golf Course
Played On 07/03/2023Drenched in history
Starting with staff friendliness, these guys are at the top of their game. Everyone greeted with us with a very warm welcome. Felt like I belonged.
The proshop and dining area is worth coming early for. This course is drenched in history. Spend 15 - 30 min and read some of the history. Great history on Vegas golf.
The course layout is interesting and will keep everyone on their toes. Not extremely well manicured and the greens were a bit slow and furry. Mild elevation change and green undulation was moderate. We did face some tough pin locations tucked behind bunkers. The fairways were green with some wet spots (at 7AM).
We were a two some playing behind a foursome so I had some time to read the local historical landmarks. Very interesting and fascinating. I wish I had more time. Oh, the houses are nothing to brag about as they're all over 50 - 70 years old. Must've been a glorious place back the day.
Revere Golf Club - Lexington Course
Played On 05/08/2023The layout
Surprising to find brown spots on fairways this early in the year. The tee boxes were in bad shape (typical domed tee boxes, lots of pitch marks people don't fix, bits of broken tees collected over the years). The greens were also beat with pitch marks because nobody fixes them (and probably the same people complaining). I did enjoy the layout as some of the shots keeps you guessing. We played at 8AM so the pace was great (finished in 3.5 hrs). A good value for locals, but I doubt that I'd pay the out of town rates.

I've played this course couple of times and I continue to swear not to play this course again. But different friends always ask to go. And they all have the same feeling afterwards. Why? First, the pace of play is very slow. On several occasions, I've ran into drunk tourists that probably hasn't picked up a club in over a year. Our last round was 5 hr 15 min. Second, the bunkers are in their worst condition. Mos of the bunkers show matts which was supposed to be below the sand. Lastly, the greens are short of a clowns mouth and a wind mill. There's not a flat green on the course. On the positive, the layout is great, green condition is good and fairway is in good shape. But this will really be my last trip out there.
Desert Pines Golf Club
Played On 04/20/2023A hidden gem?
This course isn't as crazy as usual Dye job.
The fairway doesn't have the usual crazy moguls seen at PGA West course. Railroad ties aren't on every hole. But the course is tight so hitting straight shots will lead to good score. The condition of the green wasn't great as they're still healing from recent airations (slits) and the fairways were in moderate shape with some burnt spots. But the layout is fun as no two holes look the same. Overall a good value, fun play and good pace of play due to lack of attention. I heard weekend golf can take longer.
Tijeras Creek Golf Club
Played On 10/17/2022Not worth the price
I’ve played this course on every October for the past several years during my annual vacation to SoCal. This round on Oct 18 is the worst condition I’ve ever seen. The fairways is an absolute disaster with mixture of wet grass and dirt and the greens were soggy, lumpy and filled with pot marks. Worst is the maintenance workers do not give way to golfers. We had a mowers going around in circles in front of us while we’re trying to hit the ball. Mind you that this is t a low budget muni. This course charged over $100 for this pathetic condition and service. And their “dynamic pricing” (which seems to be normal for lot of courses these days) is just an exercise to charge whatever they want. I’m sure the management will throw out another canned and hollow response saying they’ll try harder, but seems like lip service as they’ve been saying that to other complainers for a very long time. If you are planning to play this course anytime soon, you’ve been warned.

Thank you for your feedback. We appreciate that you took the time to send your thoughts. Please try us again soon.

Thank you for your comment. We can only get better when we hear from our guests. Hopefully we will see you again soon.

This is now my third time playing this course and probably will be my last. Yes, I agree with other posters. The course is pretty. Every hole is unique. But I developed my distaste for the course due to the design. First, there are 100 sand traps on the course. And they are all severely penile. Traps located in middle of a fairway punishes good tee shots. Second, the greens are beyond ridiculous. There isn't a flat spot on any of the greens. Few of tholes had the flag (all red) placed five paces from the front with a front trap and green slopping away. And they wonder why the players are taking long time to play the holes??? If you beat this course, you should join the putt putt tournament. FYI, there really isn't a 19th hole. There are two trailers that makes up as a clubhouse.

I enjoyed the course. I liked the layout as the course offered variety of shots. I also thought the staff was very friendly and helpful. But I hope the course talks to the guys placing the pins on the greens. Placing them on a crest of a hill might look fun, but that's just childish. Not to mention what that does to the pace of play.

Played On 07/05/2021Hidden Gem
Club house isn't impressive. But, staff friendliness and the comfortable neighborly feel is tops. This place has charm like a comfortable glove. The course fairway condition isn't anything to write about (watch out dentures), but the greens are in great shape as they hold their putts. I liked the course design and layout as each hole presented it's own challenges. My most memorable was the big tree guarding the 16th green. This is a players course.

Hi, sooner90. We appreciate you taking the time to review the course and rate us. Thank you for the 4 stars! We aim for a 5-star experience, so we always welcome feedback for improvement. Thank you for playing Rancho Maria Golf Club.

Played On 01/01/2021Happy New Year
We got on with golfmoose pass so this was a treat. I played the course several years before and was very annoyed at the road noise, tour helicopter and jets landing. But, this round was much better with the air traffic was much lower due to covid. The course condition (winter dormant grass) was fair for cool weather. The layout is excellent and the course played long from the "Bali" tees (the tees now have different names). We didn't back up until the 16th hole where they made a very difficult hole a cart path only (not sure what the reason for that was since the course was dry and the grass was dormant). There, we had three groups on a tee while watching each group tee off and struggle. Overall, a great experience. On a sour note, they are charging $8 for a beer. I have money, but I don't have stupid money.
Chambers Bay
Played On 07/09/2020A MUST play
Played second of twilight tee time at 3:10. Initially saw a threatening rain shadow across the harbor so I was expecting the worst (or, Scottish weather). But, the rain faded and worked out to be a beautiful day. I would highly recommend a good pair of walking shoes for this course as it is a billy goat track. The course condition was excellent. The course is very challenging with elevation changes and undulating greens. It is very easy to three putt here. But, this was a very memorable round. A true bucket list.

This is a must play at least twice course. First time without a local knowledge will result in a humbling day. The course layout is tough. And, long par fours. But, makes the game interesting. Greens were in great shape as so was the fairways. And, staff friendless is exceptional. A must play twice course.
Grants Pass Golf Club
Played On 05/24/2019A hidden treasure
Played using my ClubCorp Travel pass. What a hidden treasure this course is.
Staff: Top notch. The starter was very helpful and went out of his way to make me feel welcomed. The lady at the restaurant was also very friendly with a charm. Truly loved engaging with the staff.
Practice facility: The chipping area was perfect for working on my bunker and short game. Nothing fancy. A bit uncomfortable since it was situated near the end of #10 fairway dog leg. Driving range was also adequate and got the job done.
Course: The front nine was pedestrian, but the back nine really showed the features of Grants Pass. Beautiful.
Condition. Fairways were lush and greens were a bit slow.
Pace. Never really had to wait more than a minute or two.
Overall a wonderful experience. A must play again course.
TPC Las Vegas
Played On 09/22/2018Poor customer svc
Great course. Loved the layout and the pace of play. Played the course for $150 due to overseeding / cart path only.
Overall, staff at the restaurant and starter were friendly. Good help from the starter and check in guys at the bag drop off.
Why the two star? I reserved two tee times for eight players. Unfortunately, one of the player wasn't feeling well in the morning of the play so him and his wife stayed behind. We went to the course and had breakfast before teeing off. The course sparsely populated with no one behind us. During my round, I received a notification that I was being charged for two more green fees. I called the course after the round to inquire about the charge. The person I spoke to just said I reserved for 8 and only had 6 pay. Okay, I'll take the blame for not calling in 48 hours to adjust. But, we used two tee times and the course was not full (had at least a hole behind us). The course was cart path only so I'm sure there were others that backed out. What made it worse was the guy on the phone was arrogant and inconsiderate. Okay, you won and you got my money. But, that will also be the last time TPC will get any of my money.

Just booked here and have to say they make the cancellation/change policy VERY clear both when booking and via email confirmation afterwards. You showed up with less than you booked and didn't read/care about the policy. Have to side w/ the course on this one. You shouldn't be writing bad reviews when you're the one at fault.

Thank you for choosing TPC Las Vegas and for sharing your experience. We apologize you had anything other than a 5-star day. Your group reserved for 8 players and showed up with 6 on a sold out Saturday morning. We don't consider the situation a "win" at all, but we stand by our policy. Thank you and take care.

Club house: Very impressive. Has presence.
Staff: Extremely helpful. Starter, cart staff, restaurant, all around very well professionally mannered.
Layout: Challenging. Very few straight holes. Slight elevation change. Greens putted at decent speed and the fairways were in good shape. Few green hole placements were questionable.
Weather kept me shivering (SoCal guy) so that was a bummer. But, overall a very nice experience. I'll definitely come back for a challenge.

Played On 04/14/2018A Vegas must
The drive is a bit out of the way, but I think it is worth the effort. The staff is friendly and the scenery is fantastic. The course layout is challenging and meanders through some ritzy neighborhood. Some mild elevation changes. Greens were a bit slow, but the fairways were well manicured. A great experience. Love the finishing holes on both sides (runs along the Lake Las Vegas).

Played On 03/31/2018Another ClubCorp Gem
The course from outside doesn't really stand out among rows of country clubs. But, the layout is awesome. Couple of quirky holes like the 14th dog leg and the 13th par three which has the largest green I've ever seen. I like the shared green on 9/18. All in all, this is a course that will surprise visitors, but very playable once you've been there a time or two. The staff is awesome too.
Hi Sooner, thank you for taking the time to review our course. We're glad you had a great time and look forward to hosting you again soon. Bill W- GM
