Park Mammoth Golf Club
Played On 08/18/2024Not Long, But Plenty Challenging
This course is situated in a hollow and has lots of elevation changes. The greens are firm, fast, and undulating. The fairways are generous, but if you miss one, the first cut of bermuda rough is thick. The second "cut" is uncut native grasses; forget finding your ball if it lands there.
Park Mammoth has a brand-new clubhouse that is well stocked, and a nice bar and grille.
It's a must-play if you are in the area.
Lake Tansi Resort
Played On 06/29/2024Excellent Condition
Lake Tansi's course was plush. Fairways, greens, and especially the rough are in great shape. Enjoyed the round even though I played poorly.
Only negative was the pace of play. Took about 2 hours, 10 minutes on the front nine. We caught a slow foursome on #15; took us one hour to play te final four holes. Total playing time was 4 hours, 40 minutes.
Spruce Creek Country Club
Played On 06/09/2024Challenging but Fun Layout
This course was challenging, but not to the extent that you felt like to were "beat up" after the round. The recently aerated greens have filled in nicely and putted true. This portion of Florida was in a mini-drought when I played, so the conditions were dry (some tight lies).
I played with two local golfers who were helpful in navigating the course. They (and the staff) were very friendly. I highly recommend this course and will be back.
Green Briar Golf Course
Played On 09/03/2023Country Golf
Writing this review is difficult -- I have "recommended" this course, but please read this before deciding to play.
The pros -- I look at this course and see TONS of potential. It is a great layout and the fairways have been closely mowed. The staff is very friendly.
The cons -- this course needs some TLC. The greens are TINY, and several have been overgrown by native grasses. The greens on holes #2 and #6 look like they were simply cut out of the fairway. Several holes are very narrow and in need of trimming of overhanging tree branches. One-third of the tee boxes were completely bare -- no grass to hit from.
Despite the cons, I enjoyed my round. Finished in just over 2 hours. The cheap Hot Deal I got made it worth the while. This would be a great course to work on your wedges and short irons, if they could just get it in better shape.
Park Mammoth Golf Club
Played On 08/26/2023Short, Hilly Course in Great Shape
Most players won't have too much trouble getting to the greens on this course -- we played from the yellow tees and the total yardage was less than 5400. The greens, however, are fast and undulating, and several are elevated, with bunkers coming into play. Touch around the greens is paramount to scoring. The fairways are generally wide and the first cut of rough is escapable, but hit the ball way off target and you will find knee-deep native grasses that make finding, much less hitting, a ball near impossible.
The fairways are also cut very close -- lies were good but tight.
The staff were friendly and greeted you in the parking lot with your golf cart. Will definitely play here again.
Deltona Club
Played On 06/22/2023Rugged, Challenging Track
I've played Deltona four times now, and I keep going back because of the challenge. Lots of sand (typical for most Florida courses), and lots of elevation changes (atypical for Florida courses). This course has a "rugged" look and feel -- probably by design. Hit it out of the fairway, and you will likely have a bad lie.
The only negative comment I have pertains to the Bermuda greens. They are firm, somewhat fast, but very bumpy. It is difficult to hole a putt of any length.
Lakewinds Golf Course
Played On 05/14/2023FUN Course out in the Country
I teed off on a Sunday at 11:52 AM and felt like I had the course to myself on the front nine. The greens are elevated and most are small, with sharp drop-offs -- meaning if you barely miss the green, the ball will roll several yards away (don't miss #10 to the left). The course had a good stand of grass in the fairways and the greens generally rolled well.
Oh yeah, lots of elevation changes. This course is short, but fun and challenging.
Oak Hills Golf Course
Played On 09/25/2022Greens Have Improved
Pace of play was great; I played in 3 hours.
They have stripped two greens (#5, #14) and are in the process of rebuilding those two. A temporary par-3 has been set up to replace #5, and there is a temporary green in the fairway of #14. Of the remaining 16 greens, only hole #10 showed a lot of stress. They have certainly made progress since July.
The staff is always friendly here, and the grill has some great food.
Oak Hills Golf Course
Played On 07/24/2022Summer Heat is Taking a Toll
I've posted several reviews of Oak Hills; most of them are favorable. I still like this golf course, but they've lost one green (#14), and several others are in bad shape. I played Oak Hills on July 4th weekend. It was amazing how much the greens have deteriorated in a 3-week span. I hope they take better care of the greens in August, and that they recover.
River Oaks Golf Club
Played On 10/03/2021Playable Track, Good Value
A fun course that is in pretty good shape. Bermuda grass fairways and greens. Lies were tight in the fairways due to cart traffic. Bermuda rough is thick but not overly penalizing. Several water hazards and bunkers to negotiate.
Staff was friendly. Pace of play was good on the Otter nine (1:50), but slowed considerably on the Fox nine (2:30). Took our threesome 4 hours, 20 minutes to finish the round.
The Club at Venetian Bay
Played On 07/21/2021My Favorite New Course in the Daytona Area
This course is as challenging as you want it, with five sets of tees. The greens were firm and fast; the fairways are plush. We played during the week (Wednesday), and our threesome of hacks finished in well under four hours. The pro shop is well stocked and everyone on the staff is friendly. Venetian Bay will become part of the permanent course rotation at our annual Daytona Beach golf vacation.

Thank you so much for the great review. We are glad you had an incredible time, and we hope to see you again soon! Thanks for choosing The Club at Venetian Bay.
Deltona Club
Played On 07/20/2021No Water Hazards. But Let Me Tell You About the Sand.....
Played this course for second time. Tee boxes and fairways are in good shape, and the greens are near perfect (we played seven different courses in 7 days, and these greens were the best of all of them). As the title states, there is sand everywhere, not just around the greens. The rough is even sandy. This course also has nice elevation changes, which is unique for a Florida course. Highly recommend this track.
Mayfair Country Club
Played On 07/18/2021Classic Donald Ross Design
Mayfair C.C. has the trademark Donald Ross domed greens. It also has subtle elevation changes, which are unusual for central Florida.
The pace of play was fast on the front nine, but was slooooow on the back. A marshal came out and made a slow foursome skip a hole to speed things up, but we still caught them 3 holes later.
The bermuda greens were in pretty good shape, as were the fairways. The course is a little rough around the edges as far as manicuring goes, but is worth a look, especially if you like the challenge of a Donald Ross design.
Palm Harbor Golf Club
Played On 07/17/2021Tough, Tight
This course was the most difficult of seven different courses I played on a recent golf trip. The front nine is a little tighter than the back nine, so drive it straight. Very few holes have "bail out" areas. The greens were firm, but a little bumpy due to aeration a few weeks earlier. The fairways have a good stand of bermuda grass, but are mown close and offer tight lies.
Pace of play was great.
There is a popular small restaurant sharing the same building as the pro shop.
Cheekwood Golf Club
Played On 06/30/2021Lengthy Executive Course
This 9-hole course consists of five (5) par-4s and four (4) par-3s. It is a cross between a true executive course and a regulation course. The par-4s are plenty challenging, especially hole #5.
The course was in very good shape, with zoysia fairways and bermuda greens. The only drawback was the pace of play. It took my foursome about 2 hours to play 9 holes, which is a little long for a course of this length. There was no starter on the first tee either, so players making the turn would have to jockey for position with those waiting to play their first nine. I paid for 18 holes, but only played 9 because of the mess on the first tee.
Tennessee Tech Golden Eagle Golf Club
Played On 04/11/2021Formerly Cookeville Country Club
This course is not what it used to be since the university has taken over operations. The course was hit hard this past February by an ice storm; tree limbs are down all over the course and have not yet been cleaned up.
We played the course the day after a heavy rain, so it was saturated. Hole numbers 2, 4, 7, 17, and 18 had portions of their fairways under water. There's nothing that could be done about the rainwater, but it just made the conditions worse.
I've played this course many times since 1984, and it is in the worst shape it has ever been. I hope the warmer weather and a little TLC will bring this course back to its former condition.
For the record, the greens were in very good shape.
Trenton Golf Club
Played On 02/21/2021Scenic Course with Many Elevation Changes
Trenton Golf Club is a very scenic, challenging golf course. You must hit the ball well (which I did not) in order to score. Hole #5 is one of toughest par-5s I have ever played. It is tight and goes straight up a hill (it felt like mountain).
The Bermuda grass fairways were dormant in February, but you could tell the grass will be plush when warmer weather arrives. Looking forward to playing this course again in the summer.
Tennessee Tech Golden Eagle Golf Club
Played On 11/14/2020Fun Course with Challenging Par-4s
Greens were firm and fast, but putted true. Bermuda fairways were starting to go dormant; lies in the fairways were still good. Pace of play was a bit slow on the front, but once a foursome quit at the turn, play was fast. Finished 18 holes in just over 3 hours.
Kenny Perry's Country Creek Golf Course
Played On 11/08/2020Excellent Conditions and Weather, Marshal Needed
I've played this course numerous times, and it is always in good shape. Generous fairways give most players a chance to score.
The only complaint this time is pace of play. Tee times were running behind about 20 minutes. It took us 4-1/2 hours to finish, and we played #18 in twilight. There were still 2 or 3 groups on the course when we finished. Would like to see a marshal on the 1st tee to make sure everyone is teeing off when they are supposed to.
Oak Hills Golf Course
Played On 09/07/2020Continued Improvement
I've reviewed this course several times. Oak Hills has made numerous improvements this season, including the sodding of tee boxes and the sprigging of fairways. Glad to see a portion of the #6 fairway still roped off, allowing the grass to come in.
Word has obviously gotten out, as the number of players at this course has increased. Pace of play on the front nine was fast, but several groups started on #10 (including a fivesome), so the back 9 was slow. Would like to see that monitored a little better.
Hi, we appreciate you taking the time to review the course and rate us. Thank you for the 4 stars! We aim for a 5-star experience, so we always welcome feedback for improvement. Thank you for playing Spruce Creek Country Club.
